Welcome to Paladin-fever, brother, I played a Paladin for 24 years and Im telling you Pre-raid/Bgs you can build a sexy Ret Paladin, looks like you prefer the PvP server, level 1-30 are gonna be easy and tough, youll need a slow 2 hander and auto your way thru with your seals, the secret here is to embrace cloth/leather/mail (level 40 is plate+free mount) stack Eagle>stam>int gear for 2 reasons 1, longer playablility VS mobs and 2. survive those pesky gankers - if you survive thier initial burst you get a chance to hit back/heal/stun and work that pvp-magic, level 30-45 we begin to shine Seals healing/mana really help - youll need partial Holy tree talents+Prot tree talents (bonus armor from items - faster stun CD) during this period really focus on bandages/tailoring for bags/cash, also just a reminder stacking a ton of basic Int/Stam also makes you a decent healer for low-mid dungeons up too Scarlet Monestary, 45 = 2 quests from Marudon kill princess for a sexy 1hs Thrash blade + trinket Mark of the Chosen (+25 all stats for 60 seconds is amazing) youll start finding plate now, but focus on a 2ndary set of Eagle (int/stam) gear try not ot get distracted by Agility/crit or other junk, your talents will start getting good now 45-59 so built carefully, this might be your first respec, BEFORE 60, grind a bit of BGs if availible - the reputation rewards from the quartermasters are nice Pre-Raid BIS (really even matching some BWL items) now your ready for 60, drop tailoring after you have made your first 3K gold (epic mount/all spells/AH pre-raid BIS blues) and keep around 1K for that pvp profession (Engineering/alchemy?) - dont sell or dis-enchant your eagle set, you can jump in and heal basic mid-high dungeons to supliment gold and gear, there are 2 million videos on how to pvp as a ret pally utube is your friend, youll catch a ton of flack and hot messy opinions, stay the course! and have fun smashing faces! brother!

ret is a mixed bag , since 99% of them just ignore what paladins are in classic a jack of trades , a ret that isnt offhealing , using their utility spells is a waste of slot , u arent there for dmg thats for sure.
Saying there are no Ret Paladins in Classic is like saying there are no Arms Warriors in Classic. It’s actually fair to argue that Ret Paladin has more of a place in raids than a 2h Arms War. Why bring a 2h Arms War to a raid that’s not even gonna manage to break top 5 DPS when you can bring a DW Fury War and get top 3 instead. People see Ret Paladins in raids as idiots with utility. People see Arms Warriors in raids as trolling because why would someone choose to do sub-optimal dps when the class they’re playing already has a no-brainpower required top tier dps spec if they’re not just griefing. Ret Paladins at least bring utility with buffs and with the right weapon, debuffs. So you could argue Ret Paladin is more viable in Raids than Arms Warriors are. Plus, once they’re in AQ40 gear Ret Paladins can typically stay in Top 10 on the DPS meters from what I’ve seen of various different rets in raids during my research. Besides, Hunters shouldn’t be allowed to have ALL the weapons that drop.
Of course for leveling and PvP 2h Warrior in Classic is the way to go. You can make the argument for switching to dual-wield Fury at like 53/54 when you start getting your +hit gear, but until then it’s either 2h Arms or the ever popular 2h Fury tank.
Not trying to be argumentative or anything. Just between being a Warrior main myself for the last 20 years through all various versions of WoW, and all the research I’ve done into Ret Paladins for fresh, these are just the most common things I’ve either seen or seen people who actually mained Ret Paladin say.

While warriors are doing 1500+ DPS in naxx rets are doing around 500 if that. That is how bad theyre in PvE. In PvP theyre not bad but not really good either. And you really only have 1 damaging ability other then seals and autoattacks whichbis judgement.
Paladin leveling in vanilla is actually a lot easier than Warrior leveling. Very little downtime once you’ve found your rhythm and you’re virtually unkillable.

Yeah but in exchange for the 1,000 dps loss the entire raid gains all 3 pally buffs, salv, another DI if need be, etc., etc…
How did you play paladin for 24 years when the game came out in 2004? Hence the 20th anniversary servers.

You mean the same thing the 3 holy paladins are going to bring regardless?
For reference, I barely got anywhere because the longest buff you have is ten minutes long, with a five-minute buff that needs recast every time you use Judgment; TBC it’s somewhat playable, with me getting to Un’Goro right before Wrath pre-patch, when I went from each enemy taking a couple of minutes of auto-attacks to fight…to melting a raptor in about three seconds flat with another 15 seconds of “what the hell just happened?”

Yeah but do you really want your main tank healer to stop healing the tank to rebuff an entire 40 man raid?

Paladin is boring no matter the spec in every way. Reckoning/ret is the only spec in pvp that can kill anything. Its still boring though.
Theres basically no boss in classic under optimal raid setup that lives more then 5 minutes. Most die in under 1 minute. And with the debuff limit gone, its pretty much every boss is going to die in under a minute.
Maybe they were a developer? Maybe they just got mixed up with time.
Ret Paladin is a joke. Play a Warrior.
