How is LTP auto invite not considered automation

So I see a lot of summon spammers in LFG using Leatrix to auto-invite people to their group when that person whispers them “inv” (or whatever keyword they have setup).

I’m just curious how that addon is considered okay to use? You literally have to do nothing to invite someone, the addon does it all for you. Additionally they use another addon that by typing another phrase (123 by default) it automatically puts them in line to be summoned and all they have to do is click one button on each account in that addon window to summon this person.

My questions are really twofold then. How is leatrix not considered automation and since it’s not why does the second addon they use not automatically summon the person for them like leatrix automatically invites?

EDIT: Let me end this with I’m fine with people summoning and spamming in LFG. LFG is generally a clown fiesta anyways, and hey, if that’s how you want to make gold I’m not one to stop you. I’m just genuinely curious how something that automatically invites a person when they whisper you is considered legal in both classic and retail

Becuase the API allows addons to auto-invite.

You’re not getting multi-boxing back. Sorry for your loss.

It IS automation, but its of the limited form that Blizzard expressly allows via API.

The API allows for some minor forms of automation. Like sending messages to chat, or group invites, etc.

Essentially, you won’t get in trouble for using features of the API, because Blizzard intentionally put them in there. If they decide those features enable behavior they do not approve of, they will remove or rework that API call.

multiboxing is still here. it never left

I was going to say I use a Macro everytime I do the Westfall Chicken (CLUCK!) Quest. Instead of typing “/chicken” everytime, I spam the Macro LOL

Auto-inviting is 100% automation, but that is something allowed and that’s why addons are able to do that. RaidSummon creating a summon frame to organize summons isn’t automation, it’s advanced UI interaction. What RaidSummon is doing is no different from DBM, Decursive and many other addons. It’s using the API code to create a better form of interface. When a person types “123”, the addon reads that and creates a UI element that works by doing different things based on how you interact with it. So you click it, it targets the player, you right-click it, it starts summoning them while also whispering them and announcing in raid, plus it removes the UI element. If you think RaidSummon is some form of automation, then you should remove DBM and many other addons that you probably use. Threat meter? Oh, that’s automation, you have to filter your combat log properly and manually count your damage and be constantly reporting that to people. Sorry.
