How is Lock tanking? Do you have to be a specific spec to make it work?

So I have a few questions,

1 - How is Lock tanking right now?
2 - Is there a specific spec I need to go to make it work or can I stay as deep affliction?
3 - I noticed it says Life Tap is 100% more effective, is there a way I can get that health back in a fight or do I have to rely on the healer for that? Do you Life Tap while tanking? Is there mana issues while tanking?

Heres a tutorial i found.

  1. High armor, crit immune. No aoe threat to speak of that is worthwhile. It is ok and useable but not perfect.
  2. Grab 15% stam from t1 demo. Other things dont have much impact, i use affli as main spec for instant corruption and improved life tap, + the hit chance for affli skills (like drain life).
  3. Use the rune that makes drain life a DoT. You will have to life tap.

Your best aggro is searing pain(extra threat built in), other skills don’t produce enough threat at +50% threat increase from meta. Dps will likely be riding your tail on threat so the time to use corruption or something is generally bad midfight. It can be good to start out max range with an immo or corruption on off targets then start spamming searing on the main target.

Shadow cleave is pretty bad. 30 damage on 3 targets, 45 threat each in meta form. A single attack from anyone will do more than that.

Don’t use cast time skills when being attacked, it’ll tank your threat due to pushback. Use them as an opener.

It’s fine, but kind of janky on threat right now because searing pain is a level 26 upgrade.

Generally you build lake of fire / meta / grace vs. incinerate. People will say drain life rune, but lake of fire on pull makes your searing pains do 40% more which is better. Drain life is better for soloing or pvp though.

The best spec right now is 11 affliction / 5 demo. Later on it will likely be 0/31/20 for tanking so you get SL and 10-15% increased crit to searing pain from demo and/or intensity which will let you use hellfire for AOE threat. Once you hit 30 you’ll just pull dungeon packs with incinerate/searing pain, set-up lake of fire, and then do crazy aoe threat with hellfire. For bosses you pull with incinerate/lake of fire, then spam searing pain and refresh dots. Grace can also be used to pull with the 30% increased crit instead of using incinerate, which also gives you a defensive cooldown.

It’s going to have problems later unless they give you some kind of spammable shadow damage threat, because searing pain is your main threat and half the bosses and mobs in MC and BWL are fire immune, as is onyxia.

It’s also going to have problems with gear durability because cloth gear inherently has less durability than plate gear, so unless the devs are paying attention to this your gear is going to break constantly. It already does this to some extent in dungeons.
