Frost is looking strong for Shadowlands (though the Glacial Spike build is not going to be a good choice at the beginning).

Frost is looking to be the best mage spec for every form of content so you’re golden.
^ basically, with arcane having some niches and being good enough u can play it without feeling bad if its ur thing. glacial spike spec is dead for the entirety of sl pretty much, barring some talent changes to it or addition of boosts to it from covs etc. everything u get in sl boosts ice lance, nothing boosts spike. it looks good, just wish there was better cov tuning so it was truly a choice at top end. right now its venthyr, with kyrian behind that, and nf behind that (unless ur focusing mostly on aoe content like m+, then its really good), then necro so far back that if u see a necro mage in sl, its either a very casual alt, or someone that is clueless, so run
That’s not what I’ve been reading. The difference between Covenants for Frost mages is only a 2% spread (with Kyrian/Pelagius being the only real outlier).

kyrian was the outlier for st after the siphoned malice conduit got gutted for venthyr, but they recently changed mirrors of torment to give a charge of brain freeze whenever a mirror is consumed, which boosted it ahead of kyrian again for both st and aoe.

But what about icicles? If mages don’t get good scaling on their mastery, the spec is toast. IL doesn’t scale with icicles.
mastery is frost’s worst stat come pre patch. glacial spike is dead. the only reason itll still see some play in pre patch is cause of how much mastery most mages will still have from their fire/no il sets. ice lance dmg scales off int, crits more with crit, scales with versa, and all the soulbind/legendary stuff in sl buffs ice lance, not icicles. this is assuming of course that you aren’t trolling with this comment.

Water Elemental probably won’t see much play since Ice lance is the playstyle most people will be going with and lonely winter will actually benefit them.

yup but now you will be playing rune of power. I enjoyed Frost because I didn’t have to pick that talent before. Frost is still very fun though.

So with Frost using Rune in Shadowlands too that means every spec will be using Rune?
