How are self-found characters going to progress in enchanting? Silver, golden and truesilver rods are made by blacksmiths. Without AH access, mail, or trades, it will be impossible for enchanters to progress very far in their profession. This will result in most cloth-wearing casters going into tailoring/skinning or herbalism/alchemy. Would it be possible to create a special trade vendor in capital cities who will only sell to self-found characters? That vendor could sell the enchanting rods and other tradeskill materials that do not drop from mobs and must normally be obtained from other players. Thoughts?
Level mining/BS, make rods, buckles, sharpening stones etc to fill up your bank to the bursting point. Drop those, level LW/herbalism, drop those, level tailoring/ench. Alternate level skinning / tailoring, drop Skinning for Ench.
I think Blacksmithing is the key profession as almost all other mats can be found/dropped/fished.
I am fully for vendors selling proff items to SF players IF we also get vendors selling high end white and grey items for IronMan use.
I think that leveling and dropping multiple trade skills in order to level the desired ones will not appeal to most folks who want to try SF and may hinder some folks from trying it at all. Trade skills should help us to advance through our journey but should also be enjoyable. The enchanting rods are just obvious examples of trade skill leveling barriers in SF. There are no doubt, many other material obstacles for all skills and modes of play. The key would be to prevent folks from abusing the vendors by purchasing under SF and then converting to non-SF to sell the items. The price point on the items from these specialized vendors should be high enough to discourage potential auction house resale later on.
The problem is this is self found. Unless you spend alot of time farming grey mobs (to not get xp but get drops for money) you won’t be able to afford this and once you are 60 self-found is turned off anyways.
Yes and … this is what SELF found is all about.
if you’re enough of a mad lad you can level blacksmithing/mining, make up to truesilver rod, drop a profession, and level enchanting. i bet someone will do it lol
Classic professions were never designed around being solo, while the worst profession is Enchanting which is close to impossible in SSF mode, you will find other professions also are reliant on a lot of other items, for example you won’t be able to make any high level LW patterns because you won’t have any cured rurged hides (need a salt shaker) and a number of low level ones, even the better quivers take potions.
Understand this is what you are signing up for with SF mode, its not terrible and you still most professions are mostly viable until end game, though for Engineering you will likely need to fish leather, and find that Alchemy also has a number of fishing required recipes.
Profession dropping is pretty common in SSF HC
This discussion interests me. Thank you.

It’s not, really. Not everythign will be viable in SF
It’s OK; not every profession needs to be viable on SF. That’s just part of SF.
