Hi I love the class so far, played it a bit in legion. But, how is Destro locks Single target damage? Is it passable? I love how we are the kings of 2 man cleave. Idk If I could do the class if the ST is in the trash because of that.
Chaos bolts hit like an absolute truck. Looking at the legendarys it seems that the shoulders give a damage boost to chaos bolts and i believe there is a conduit ability that makes it so that if you cast havoc on your main target and cast havoc it boosts your chaos bolt damage even more. Seems like we have the ability to one or two shot people if done right.
What? Ret Paladin’s Judgement, if it crits, hits harder than Chaos Bolts. Chaos Bolts are hitting like noodles right now, even with Focused Chaos.

In the random heroic dungeon groups I’ve played with I’m normally middle-of-the-pack for AoE/trash pulls (frost mages seem very strong there right now), but I normally top single-target/boss damage by a wide margin.
That said, this is based on play with dungeon groups, not a competitive raid environment. I believe Affliction may pull ahead overall in single-target damage, but I don’t think Destruction is unplayable, and I think it will do quite well in a number of raid encounters.
I have had Chaos Bolts hit from 4k to 9k depending on the target and debuffs. And I am not that high ilevel yet.

We playing the same game? Chaos bolt hits for like 5k damage. While judgement is hitting for 12k. Both at like ilvl 170ish. I feel like you could fart and do more damage than a chaos bolt.

Chaos bolt could, admittedly, use a coefficient buff. I’m at 1,212 intellect, 14% crit and 36% mastery. CB hits for about 4445 without any buffs/procs up. Considering the cost and how we’re still at about a 1.9-2.0 second cast time for CB it’s just not hitting hard enough.
Maybe much later in the xpac when our crit and mastery values are even higher it’ll be better, but it really says something when the CB-centric legendary is considered subpar (if not downright awful) because the base spell is underperforming.
I’ve been playing destro for a while now, it handles single target pretty well. I agree with others that said CB doesn’t have the same impact it used to though. Even so, I’m overall happy with the class itself, but it could use a few tweaks to give it some more oomph. Oh and I would love either some more survivability or mobility tools. Demonic Circle is okay, but some movement speed that isn’t burning rush would be great.
Chaos bolt could use a slight buff in my opinion but we are still pretty solid single target and great at cleave. Also we can bring some really solid AOE now with the right build and legendary.
