I was thinking of switching to arcane but wanted to know how its fairing in heroic and mythic EP
Supposedly fire is best (caveat: you need the right traits + mechagon bracers). For the gear i have available, arcane seems to put out better numbers with frost close by. I’ve only had the guts to do arcane in the PuG raids i do for this reason.
The highest i’ve done is some heroic, i got to orogoza last night.
Oh ok thanks
It kind of depends on how much movement there is. Arcane is great if you can just stand there and do your rotation without many interruptions. I’m running fire now without the right traits or the bracers and not using meteor and RoP and raidbots and askmrrobot sim me around 41,000dps. I usually find myself in the middle of the pack though on raid encounters.
Nice, thank you
Arcane is one of the worst performing specs for EP along with frost. If you wanna mess around go ahead but if you want to not be a burden for your raid switch to fire. www(Dot)warcraftlogs(dot)com/zone/statistics/23#
Biggest problem with arcane is in EP is the spec has virtually no cleave.
On a single-target fight like first boss you can do fine as arcane. But on a cleave fight like Orgazoa your dps will be unchanged while the other dps rises 50% or more from the cleave.
It’s not that fun pulling 40k dps as arcane on a fight like that while the “real” dps is doing 60 or 70k.
Since you play fire, how about next time you link YOUR logs instead?..
on the other hand, no one cares how much you pad on the adds if the boss doesn’t die. and arcane should always be top boss damage.
Arcane single-target is pretty good.
But in my experience, it’s still not top. Even on single-target fights. I might just suck with it, but the best I’ve done is maybe 3rd place.
On our mythic Orgazoa attempts other classes beat me on boss damage … while doing 30k dps to the adds. Meanwhile I do less than them on the boss and basically zero to the adds.
I probably just suck.
Arcane was one of the worst performing specs, but isn’t anymore. If you look at the Warcraft Logs data, you’ll see arcane right along in that middle pack over the last two weeks…
Until… you look at the 99th percentile of players, where arcane fairs much better (8th of 24 dps specs). It’s not a particularly RNG-dependent spec, so there’s some evidence that the spec is better than how many players use it.
Other than that, what Mistwynd said. Arcane is a single-target spec that shines with low-movement fights. Your DPS will probably be lower on Radiance and Orgozoa than on other fights, but still viable if done well enough. Zaq is the only fight I would consider switching to fire a necessity.
I mean you’re kinda gimping yourself with some talent and trait choices. Shrug.
Can also do some neat stuff with displacement to do p1 orgozoa with very close to 0 movement loss.
Anyway not gonna pretend arcane is totally ideal (since fire is freakin op on that fight) but there are a lot of guilds stuck on orgo and it’s because they’re lacking single target not aoe
Arcane is fairly strong single target. The parses you’re seeing at the top end are more indicative of fight length and gear thsn the spec itself. If the fight ends just after 2-4 minutes Fire will be better ST. If the fight end just after 3 minutes or just prior to the 2 minutes mark than Arcane will finish ahead. Has to do with their CDs and burst windows.
Frost is like old reliable, it generally performs in the same ballpark each time with some variance from glacial spike; if you’re playing GS that is.
Some good responses here I appreciate it. I’m assuming fire is still the way to go in 8.3?
