How important is your race in WoW Classic?

Hey guys, I started playing in BC but I wasn’t a super active player. When classic launches, I hope to get stuck into it. I plan to play Hunter or Rogue as my class and was thinking my Hunter would be a Troll and my Rogue would be an Undead because those are the races I like. I also hope to get into the PvP scene, but the more videos I see about Classic keep talking about racials and how they’re actually important in Classic. Is it really important? If I don’t choose the perfect race for my class, am I going to be unable to be competitive in PvP? Thanks for the tips!

At the end of the day, play the race you enjoy the most.

Trolls make good hunters. Undead make good rogues so follow your first mind. Only min/max if you plan to be in a hardcore guild

yes they benefit certain classes… gnome mages / human warriors / ne hunters. I don’t play horde so dunno the ones for them…

i mean vanilla is probably the most important version of wow for class+race combo, theres a lot of min/maxxing that matters but that beign said, never let that get in the way of doing what you want for fun…if oyu want to tauren it up on somethat or gnome it up on somethat thats not pvp or pve optimally ideal, do it anyway cause its still just minor

They are important but you already picked good races. There’s no “wrong” race for hunter in this. For rogue, I suggest undead or troll, you done picked one.

Troll Hunter is a good choice. Hunter gets a lot from Berserking, Bow Specialization and Beast Slaying.

Undead is a perfectly fine choice for Rogue as well, though some might argue that Will of the Forsaken is when compared to the Orc racial Hardiness for overall value in PvP.

I’m more min/max than most players out there, but there are a couple of places where I draw the line and do what I want to do for aesthetics. Race is one of them. I only play orc characters, because orcs are freakin’ awesome.

My main orc prot warrior that I created in vanilla… I played him for 6,360 hours (265 days played). That’s over a year of my awake life that i spent staring at that character. And I wouldn’t have enjoyed him as much as a tauren (5% more hp).

Your choice of race will likely have no more than a 1% effect on your performance. It’s not that big of a deal. Skill and gear is 99% of it. And for most classes, each available race has something useful.

Yeah - I agree - except I am really partial to Trolls. I discovered later that I preferred the male Troll animations so most of my Classic characters will be male Trolls. (plus I really don’t miss the female Troll run animation from vanilla.)

The way my characters look and move are way more important to me than the racial abilities/bonuses.

In classic race is more important than it ever will be in the future. It’s not the end all be all, but it is quite important.

Race is largely just a preference and class restriction choice to make, but it can have an impact in both PvP and PvE, depending on your class.

If your into min/maxing or going to go for a guild that requires it, yeah your race will matter, outside of that you will still be competitive in PvP and you’ll do fine in PvE raids or instances.

Honestly it’s not as big of a deal as people make it out to be.

Dwarf priest probably get the best racial bonus hands down and even that’s not the “end all be all”. Pick a race you like and don’t let the forums scare you into thinking that you have to be X race for X class here.

Bottom line how well you do in game is all that really matters. For example I would take a good night elf priest over a mediocre dwarf priest any day .

And for rogue/hunter your race choices are fine just for the record.

Atm im hardcore struggling with picking between troll and undead priest. the minmaxxer in me wants undead but the personal side wants troll for whatever reason. in general i prefer to pick the best race for the class. like human/tauren warrior, Dwarf Priest, Gnome Caster etc. i can worry about making the character look the way i want it to look later

Play what you enjoy but
Pvp, Humans
Raiding, Horde races
Don’t care, Night Elf

Certain classes do pair very well with races. For instance without rogue cloak of shadow dwarf is very strong to remove poison and bleed before vanishing, and undead so you don’t get fear spammed.

For warlock orc is very strong because many warlocks struggle against rogue.

For pve dwarf priest is very strong with the prayer and fear Ward, also stone form helps to remove blind if you get ganked.

Those are the main ones people care about. Oh and if you want to do the most dps as a warrior people go human for the weapon skill.

That said you can still enjoy any class you won’t be super gimped. But if you find yourself wanting to be the best at the class then I’d pick an optimal combo.

Tauren are good tanks because of their racial.

Minmaxer should want troll priest too.

Just do it.

More important than in BFA, less important than people act.

Pick whatever race you think is the best. They’re close enough, just utilize your racials.

Racials will be useful and give you an edge in certain fights. They may win you some close battles. But, you can still be competitive regardless. there is no wrong choice. What it really comes down to is being happy with the character you’re looking at for hundreds of hours. That’s the true racial bonus.
