I’ve started similar discussion on Facebook, but I’ve wanted to know how important the title “Cutting Edge” is to everyone else. For me, I’m comfortable with just having AOTC. Although it’s difficult, it does not require a tremendous amount of work not to mention it doesn’t require that many fails and rinse and repeats (unless you’re pugging it constantly for AOTC). As someone who professionally works for 12 hours a day almost 5 days a week it’s hard for me to dedicate this time to my guild to help get cutting edge.
I definitely see cutting edge as something that borders full time gaming, prepping, looking at logs, sims etc. Me personally I’m not prepared to put that kind of mental energy into something that is not going to give me money or p***y. However, that is just me. What does this title mean to everyone else? Is it worth it? Why or why not?
It’s valuable if your goal is to join guilds capable of clearing Mythic tiers. It just says you’re competent enough to kill the hardest bosses and that’s it.
Well competency is something that can be defined in AOTC. Only difference between AOTC and CE is the additional things and mechanics. I mean, I’ve seen failures upon failures of people trying to get AOTC.
I mean I don’t, nor have I ever gotten it.
But it is important enough for me to log in to raids and try to progress.
I used to worry about Aotc. Now I know I will get it and just hope we can have some good tier progression.
We are super lax and not strict. We goof off while we progress so if it comes it comes. But I go in with the mentality that I want it.

You have to play your class/spec at a higher level too. Looking at your parses, you’d need to improve quite a bit to try and push for CE but by your own admission you don’t want to put the effort in.
Which is fine, of course. I’m just saying that AOTC doesn’t mean a lot. I’ve personally carried folks to it several times.
That being said, CE isn’t a catch all either. For example, I haven’t got it because my guild has had some stability issues but on my mage, my lowest parse on the mythic bosses we have killed is 96 with my highest being 99 and I very rarely mess up mechanics so…
We did a lot of recruiting though… hoping to actually get CE next tier instead of missing progression nights constantly due to a healer/dps shortage.
Ahem… sorry about the little tangent. The roster issues have been frustrating.

Worthless because you can buy it
No worries I appreciate the feedback. Yeah man I work in the emergency department at my local hospital. At 37 years old, my mentality is a lot different than what it was when I first played WoW. I had that what I would call “Mamba mentality” (a reference to Kobe Bryant if you will) and I want to be the best. After my years going through toxic guilds and raging I’m not prepared to go through the stress on a video game like I did in my 20’s. It’s just me. I mean you get the achievement and yes its peen measuring stick but for me, I rather just have a chill title. I’ve seen many failures in AOTC enough to piss people off on discord.

It takes significantly more skill and player knowledge to get CE compared to AOTC.
You also have to be willing to wipe on bosses hundreds and hundreds of times, so there is a dedication necessary as well.

You can buy cutting edge as well…Or are you not seeing it advertised on your server? I mean it’s advertised on Mal’Ganis.
You don’t have to be competent to get aotc.

The step in skill/effort from AOTC to CE is about the same as the leap from LFR to Heroic.
Sure you do. You don’t go in there aggro’ing everything you have to have at least SOME awareness.
If you say so, we agree to disagree…My guild sells these runs and have told a guy no refunds for being an idiot in one of our Heroic EP raids. Trust me it requires some competency.
It’s not as important as pretty much anything in real life, so not worth putting your life on hold to get it. However, if you have the time and it’s something you’d like to accomplish, I’d say go for it. But don’t bother buying it–do it for yourself. The knowledge that you did it will last far longer than just having a title.

Wait, your guild sells them and then expects the buyer to have to do something?
Cross server Mythic raids are unlocked for this tier now, so any server can buy it. But I’m guessing the cost of buying CE is orders of magnitudes more expensive than the cost of buying AOTC.
AOTC you can even get for free now if you join a halfway OK pug, but to get CE you’ll probably have to pay several million gold.

I have noticed people selling these AOTC runs, so does it really show anything any more? How would a guild determine the difference?
Competency was a poor choice of words on my part considering how massive the skill gulf in WoW is. I should have rephrased it as being skilled enough to clear Mythic tiers.
Clearing AOTC without being a burden does require some basic knowledge and skill, but the level required is much lower than what Mythic takes.

I feel you, and I guess that is where I’m at mentally. My job requires me to keep human beings safe and alive, I kinda think that is more challenging that cutting edge but hey that is just me, no knock to any people that have time to do it. I’m just wondering how important it is to other people. I get the responses of the sense of accomplishment.
