Watching these videos and they are stressing me out. The main classes I want to try in TBC are Shaman and Rogue. Thinking of going Leatherworking and Engineering, but I see a lot of people saying Rogue should pick up herbalism. If I drop leatherworking would that be bad? If I’m not mistaken BiS chest for rogues is from Leatherworking. Would I be doing myself dirty for not going Leatherworking? The only reason I’m considering Herbalism on rogue is because of Blind and Thistle tea. Is thistle tea still used in TBC and does blind still take Blinding Powder?
As for shaman, I was thinking about BS and JC, but I’m seeing a lot of people saying Leatherworking or tailoring. Should drop JC? Basically how bad is it if don’t go to the right profession in TBC?
Side note: I’m leveling a rogue right now, any suggestion on which profession to use?
I would recommend picking the professions that you would enjoy using. Jewelcrafting has some really good BiS jewelry pieces. If you want to minmax super hard, you probably want to go Leatherworking because it doesn’t seem like they will change the mechanics of War Drums. Currently many people are worried their guild will be 75% leatherworkers because of war drums, but there’s a slight chance it’ll be changed
I like herbalism and alchemy because I enjoy picking herbs instead of crafting stuff, potions have simple recipes, and you make good money with transmutes, along with making your own potions to use without a markup to pay for. I believe Thistle Tea is good in TBC, but I don’t think it requires Alchemy to use if you can just buy some on the AH
Edit: Blacksmithing weapons are pretty good. Dragonstrike is a great weapon for Enhancement shaman, but there are better drops from raids eventually. Pretty much every tier of raid has good Leatherworking recipes for yourself, but again they get outclassed by raid gear. Gathering professions always make money, consumable professions like alchemy and enchanting always make money, tailoring makes some super strong caster gear but probably not important for rogues and shamans
They all offer slight something but nothing to really care about.
Only big are LW drums, and BS stunherald mace for pvp. Rest you honestly won’t notice.
Stop watching the videos.
you can
a) play what you enjoy and how you enjoy it
b) be a meta slave cuck
I don’t get it, people play a game they enjoy, then they play meta and cry on forums about how they want changes.
The short answer is that yes professions continue to be critical in TBC and in a lot of different ways. They’re going to continue being a great source for gold or good gear.
I also wouldn’t overly stress about it a ton. If you play a warlock go tailoring if you want to make really good gear. If you want to make gold go alch/herb and sell herbs/transmutes/elixirs. Warriors go blacksmith, hunters can double dip on drums and LW craftables.
You don’t really need to worry about making all your toons leatherworking or tailoring or whatever unless you’re going to go crazy with end-game. I’m going to play my warlock and he just isn’t going to have tailoring. All those other try-hard casters are going to do it and use all those great BoP craftables and I’ll just soak up the drops because they won’t want them.
Do yourself a favor and just go herbalism/alchemy. You can ALWAYS sell potions and transmute cooldowns no matter what expansion you play.
What?! You’re not being a jerk AND have reasonable advice?!
IKR?
