How I fixed my WoW loadtimes

I discovered WoW was not using my RAM to load my game, instead it was using something called paging file on my windows 10 system. I tweaked a little setting and I was getting tremendous improvement on my loading (about 25 secs~ to 4 secs~) and the icons and models get rendered alot faster too. Here’s a guide on how i did it.

  1. Open [This PC] > Right-click [This PC] > Properties
  2. Advance system settings > Advanced Tab > Click [Settings] under Performance

Performance Options window appears
3. Click Advanced Tab > Click [Change] under Virtual Memory

Virtual Memory window appears
4. Uncheck “Automatically manage paging file size for all drives”
5. Choose your C: drive(or any available SSD) and set the custom size to the recommended amount for initial size and maximum size, Click [Set] to confirm this and then click [OK]
6. Reset your PC and check for any differences when playing WoW.

P.S. “I’m not a tech guy, but this did help me improve my loading time I hope it helps whoever who wants to try it. It does not damage your system and is reversible if you feel afraid about it”

some time ago i did this. but webpage i found says the recommended page file is about 2x of installed ram… if you have 8GB ram you put in around 16000MB <so the paging file is 16GB> but it will take up 16GB of HDD/SSD space

This is an outdated recommendation which was never accurate to begin with. Virtual memory (ie The page file) substitutes for physical memory you don’t have, so the less physical memory you have the more virtual memory you want.

That having been said, since Windows 2K there’s very little reason outside of diagnostic purposes to specify more than just what drive the swap file is stored on. Setting limits to the amount of virtual memory, unless you desperately need to restrict its maximum size, will only encourage potential issues; albeit they’re extremely unlikely for most people.

Most load time issues are because the wow cache file size. Programs for the auction house, Logging programs increase the cache size causing loading issues
