It’s not an easy one to track down, it happens so infrequently and it’s not like it’s one mob that causes it. Can’t even tell you the last time I had it happen though.

I can. It was about an hour ago. And it happened at least twice today that I can remember off the top of my head. It may be a rare occurrence for you, but it’s very common for a lot of other people.
If this was some weird rare bug it’d be understandable, but it’s been happening pretty consistently to millions of people for 15 years. They’ve had literally a decade and a half to figure it out and here we are in 2020 and it’s still a regular thing.

yeah… mostly people who use aoe taunts and scare the poor innocent critters.
yesterday i was “stuck” in combat for the first time in a very long time.
i killed the sleeping crocs which were in the vicinity, and went on my merry way.
99.9% of the time, you’re in combat with SOMETHING.

It happens to me all the time, but I have really terrible luck sooooo…
game is getting inconsistent.
my DH’s Throw Glaive will chain to hit nearby surly seals but not the camels in Uldum.
How many classes have an aoe taunt?
i’m so thankful that there are at least SOME which do this… it makes them a whole lot easier to find.
and if in doubt:
Seals deserve it for being surly.

Always wondered whether I’d gotten splash damage on the something that borked the aggro table.
I just blow my invisibility and move on. Annoying, but at least I have an answer unlike some classes.
It can’t be critters every time. They can’t survive aoe damage.

they absolutely can… some critters can take a couple of hits to kill.
Hunter, DH Havoc, Ret, non-tank Druids… Rogues
And then they disappear forever? If it were just critters attacking you, they’d be attacking you.
They should put in an aura highlight around whatever mob you’re engaged with. Something that shows through geometry like the new main quest icon in SL.

A easy fix could be a toy that drops all combat? But that could probably be abused somehow.
A toy that shows all combat? like a demon hunter’s spectral vision that highlights all combatants?
Can you tell us exactly what action you did caused you to be stuck in combat?
It keeps happening to me in Utgarde Pinnacle and no taunt was ever used. The first couple of times I thought i missed something and walked back thru after the final boss instead of taking the short cut but while it appeared and disappeared on my character in the same rooms, no mob ever appear.
I am assuming it is a ghost. A wrath-fulled but shy ghost. Or one stuck in the floor I keep walking over.
