In classic, you can be in a one night clear guild and it honestly doesn’t take long to get your character ready to raid. I’ve heard in retail you have to do a bunch of long boring grinds in order to be a tryhard and minmax. Is that true?
There’s really not that much of grind left now with 9.1.5.
If you play just one character it was never really much of a grind at all, it was just when you had alts you ran into issues.
I haven’t ever played retail before, just started with classic - do you mean that there aren’t much grinds left in the game anymore, or there aren’t grinds IF you’ve been active raiding in 9.1?
Well, if you were to level fresh now, without having done anything before you have to do some work.
Getting to 80 would take some time, but not be horrendous, specially since a lot is given via story.
To get your legendary would also take some work, you’d have to get gear to work your way up torghast to get the dust, etc.
In the end, there will be some work, but considerably less than just LEVELING in classic.
Most of the end game classic grinding was for gold and/or potion mats. I don’t think it’s as intense for that nowadays with the ease at which you can get gold.
No grind really ? Renown ? Story ? Legendary ? Korthia ? conduits ?
The level cap is 80 now? I thought it was 60. I already have a lvl 60 but I havent played since I got to 60. Torghast sounds really boring, isnt that the tower with inifnite, auto-generated floors?
Don’t listen to others, try it for yourself.
You might just hate it more than the others. You might like it and secretly run it for fun while bad mouthing it to your friends.
80 renown sorry.
Mythic + automatically makes it grindier. You need to get the gear first, then raid for some reason.
Don’t really consider most of that a grind.
Only thing I would really consider a grind is the legendary.
OP said how grindy is it if you wanted to raid, you would have to grind all of those things if he would come to retail… still have to do all those things to raid, classic you dont have to do much… grinding is doing the same thing over and over, and you are doing all of the things i said over and over
Not really, except for legendaries.
And all of those would take you less time than just leveling in classic.
Right and hes gonna have like 50k-80k gold for a legendary coming from classic to retail ?
I’m honestly surpised yours are still so high, I payed like 30k for a max rank
A lot of that would be for min-maxing. I was getting into groups with a low-level, pvp legendary in heroic. I couldn’t be bothered to waste my time going for story or renown, so I didn’t. It didn’t really impact my ability to raid since I would still pull decent numbers.
If you want to minmax yeah, there’s a lot of stuff to do, but that’s if you really, really care about being able to pull some impressive numbers that might wow a couple people for 3 seconds then they’ll forget you even exist the moment the raid is done.
I hated and barely touched Torghast, I hated the story and barely touched it, I didn’t care about Renown so I accumulated it at an extremely slow crawl because I want to play the fun content, not waste my time doing daily nonsense and pve against npcs that can’t kill me unless I’m unconscious or get up during the middle of a fight to make a sandwich.
Still managed to get into raids, no problem, with little to no renown, the base legendary, etc. Hell I haven’t even been to Korthia since it first came out, haven’t done any of the new torghast, and I bet if I installed the game right now I could go and jump straight into Normal Sanctum of Domination with my ilvl from previous season, then easily get into Heroic once I have the normal achiev.
It really ain’t a grind.
I agree, theres still more grind than any other expacks for new players / alts than any other expacks …
.i mean you can get a low rank leggo i guess for cheap but still … i lvled my alt i had like 10k maybe
In TBC, perhaps. But in Vanilla classic, prepping for raid always took hella longer than the actual raid…
How grindy is retail now? Depends, really.
- Spend 1 day farming Cinders to max out lego.
- Korthia is not mandatory for raiding, as all it will do give you conduit upgrades and a few sockets worth 32-48 secondary stat. But you’re fine with just 239 conduits tbh.
You prob need to do 1 weekly quest to get Embers to upgrade shards.
Perhaps 1-4 weekly M+ for vault pieces that aren’t Domination shards.
All needed shards come, pretty much, in 1 full run.
Basically that. And here is a quick recap on what’s pretty much is needed to have done.
- Covenant campaign - its 9 chapters and can be busted out in about 4-5 hours.
- Korthia campaign - Its 9 chapters as can be busted out in about 4-5 hours.
- Torghast progress 1-12 layers. Do every layer basically. It’s needed for your legendary.
- Probably will need to buy a gold token to get legendary base.
- Once you pick your spec/class, you will need to farm “Memory” (that’s the legendary power effect). it can either come from covenant renown, or a raid, or a dungeon, or a world boss, or even torghast. Some are easier to find than others.
Once you hit 60, you will have to do LFR for some starter gear and renown. You will have to do a lot of World Quests to get conduits (those are like part of your 2nd talent tree).
In Korthia you’re likely to find quite a few 200 ilvl pieces to help you with gearing.
If you’re active, first few days can be painful, but if you enjoy the game, it’s fine, as you have never done any of this. It’s rather painful on alts.
I’d personally advise you to really try to find what class/spec/role you want to play, as getting alts upto speed can be rather time consuming, especially with 9.2 coming around.
9.1.5 is not a bad time to start. But there will be a steep learning curve.
I’d suggest to befriend google, as it will become your best friend. But nothing is too complex. And I am sure if you were to find a friendly guild, ask in Class-discords, you will find a lot of help from everyone.
You can jump into raiding pretty quick as the only real dps checks are Guardian and Slyvannas. Guardian in particular had too much health in normal difficulty for ilvl appropriate party. I don’t know if they nerfed that recently or not.
Within 9.0 yeah there was a lot at the beginning. But in 9.1 there wasn’t much and you can buy gear in AH.
