It’s because a portion of the “elite hardcore” crowd is finding out the hard way they aren’t actually as good as they thought, and they feel threatened even when faced with the fact OBR isn’t optimal -at all- in high level content. They’ve been squeaking by with “good enough” and now they’re angry others get to do the same. They can’t claim bragging rights anymore, or get to hid behind subpar skills.
I find the few friends I have in game that are truly “high level” players don’t GAF because they’re still parsing a lot higher than OBR users since they actually know how to play their class.

It’s only -25% of simulated max DPS, which 90% of players never come close to. For everyone not purple parsing, it’s most likely a DPS gain to use. It should be more like 50% of optimal if anything, but as said, probably shouldn’t exist in the first place

It’s not substantial.
WOW just doesn’t require high dps to do the hardest content.
Because of the people who perceive their relative value (and thus the fun they deserve) can be defined as the gap between them and the people on the bottom. Lowering the performance of the people on the bottom will increase that gap.

Complaining about bad players is silly.
People generally need experience to progress.
Whatever m+ leaver punishments or metrics Blizzard makes available will not prevent “bad players” from joining your groups.
If it’s at all possible to fail upwards, people will find a way.
It’s fine as is, the GCD penalty is enough.
Just a bunch of players learning their really not as good as they thought they were is all, they can improve.

I say make it as good as it can be, if less people suck then that’s a good thing. Let me finish a dungeon without having to worry if people with mental issues or disabilities can’t do their rotation. For people who want to play the game as it should be played then get good enough that single button rotation isn’t even an option for you.

Honestly, my most sincere opinion — if it got to the point where this button was seen as a necessity, that only means one thing:
Blizzard is starting to recognize that class design is flawed.
But it’s not something that can be easily fixed.
There’s a reason why we’re seeing so many Retribution Paladins right now, and why so many players are choosing Herald over Templar.
People want to play and have fun without having to think five-dimensional chess moves.
I mean, most hack & slash games have around 6 buttons. Most Soulslikes use 8 to 10.
And people play them. People enjoy them.
No one complains that having only 6 buttons is boring.

It’s as necessary as the new delve belt or cyrce’s circlet ring. Path of least resistance is often encouraged.
Same reason why people download weakauras for assignments instead of doing it in a more complicated fashion.
65-70% of perfectly played DPS is what it should be in my opinion, which would still make it an improvement for the great majority of players funny enough.

It’s simulated at -25% of simulated max DPS. Even with 1 button, people still won’t use cooldowns, potions, trinkets, etc. optimially.
Also I’m too lazy to look into it right now but 90% of players never coming close to 75% of simulated max dps feels like an exaggeration.
