was reading their racials and dwarves have +2% crit damage. It doesn’t seem like a lot but I got to thinking, what about frost mage? Especially ones at crit cap?
The majority of their damage is from crits, particularly glacial spike. +2% damage to glacial spike seems like a lot.
So how good is this racial for frost?
You know now that I’m thinking about it, fire does the majority of its damage in combustion windows which are also all crits
Is dwarf the superior mage race?
Yeah it’s good, it usually sims as one of the top 3 racials. Even better though, you can cleanse bleeds. There are alot of hard hitting bleed abilities and being able to cleanse those is a godsent.
Ooh that is true. I’ve definitely died to bleeds before. The one in dark heart thicket in particular.
A lot of healers don’t know it persists until you reach 90%
A lot of the sweatiest M+ players swapped whatever they could to Dwarf for the bleed cleanse as soon as cross-faction opened up.
The output bonus though… It does sim higher than the others, but it’s such a small margin that there’s really no reason to pick Dwarf based purely on that. At a 100% parse in full bis, we’re talking less than 2% between the highest and lowest races. Almost no player is at a skill level where it matters, and anyone sub 90% parse should focus on getting that 1.5% from playing better.
Realistically for the overwhelming majority of players, pick your race based on aesthetic/lore or flavour racials. No point rolling a Dwarf if it looks stupid as a caster. Racials get tweaked pretty often too, so you don’t want to end up on a race you dislike just because it was 0.5% better than something else.

Oh for sure, I’m no where near the skill level it would make any difference.
I already play a dwarf and I happen to read the racials and it got me wondering if it’s even more valuable to specs like frost that deal the majority of their damage via crits.
I can’t recall the last time racials were touched tbh.
Actually, good point. I don’t play enough races to care, and the last changes I can remember what when they removed the silence from mana tap. That said, they used to get changed fairly often.
The thing is, aside from a couple of races like LFD and Vulpera, the other races are so close to each other that they don’t really need to make changes. Would it be good if the top dps gain wasn’t also given to the race with the best current utility ability? Sure. Alternatively, give the underperforming races something that’s also really good. Either way, I’ll continue to pick classes based on Xmog.
