Should I upgrade or build a new pc?
I mean I would
But I would certainly wait for 4th generation Ryzen/11th generation Intel AND Big Navi/Nvidia 3000 before I did, which is in a few months (longer for Intel).
How does my cpu hold up today?
its about equal to a Ryzen 3 3200g
So would there be significant bottlenecks if I tried to upgrade my gpu?
Depends on the game and depends on what youâre doing in the game.
In WoW I would expect that if you got a GPU upgrade to say, something like a 2060 Super or 5700 XT (which you shouldnt, since new stuff is just around the corner) in outdoors areas just playing around WQâs you should get more utilization and in raids and such with multiple other players you should expect less utilization (more bottlenecking).
How about Witcher 3?
At the moment Iâm running 1080p 60hz at ultra without the hairworks
I used fraps seems to be around or over 60 fps
if it works it works
Mine is at 5 years and it still works rather well.
However, if I could afford it, Iâd be building a new one, because computers can only be upgraded so much and for so long.
The card you have now, isnât at all bad. To do noticeably better, prices would start about 225.00. New cards, meaning new product cards should be out within the year, might want to wait.
If you did get a better card, to benefit from it ,your cpu would struggle. ProbablyâŠ
Sounds like what you have is pretty well matched
This pandemic has a weird effect on prices. The global economy is tanking because of covid-19. People are spending less overall and the economy is taking a hit (see airlines or anything travel related). So prices should be heading down.
BUT work-at-home and remote learning are pumping up demand for computer gear. Also, supply lines are still shaky, never mind production lines. So prices are up.
2020 better not be the new normal.
what do you think of this build?
Intel Core i9 9900K
ASUS ROG Strix Z390-F
ASUS ROG Strix GeForce RTX 2080 Ti OC
32GB Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro 3200MHz memory
512GB ADATA XPG SX8200 Pro SSD
1TB Samsung 860 QVO 2.5in SATA SSD
Donât forget a nice power supply with that and an decent CPU cooler. Otherwise itâs pretty decent hardware and would last a long time.
Are there any good guides around for picking components for PCs?
id get 10th gen 10700k over a 9900k.
cheaper, better thermals.
Is that the i7 10700k?
also what does the âfâ mean?
Most guides will focus on the best components for a specific use case. How do you intend to use the PC?
Also, this is good advice.
As was this. Do you need to upgrade now? With the next gen releasing soon and Black Friday only 3 months away, itâs not the best time to buy.
This also adds to the timing issue:
Yes, thatâs the 10th gen. It has a redesigned PCB/IHS for better thermals, and includes all the most up to date microcode security updates. Also requires the Z490 board series.
F means it does not have integrated GPU. Even if you have a GPU, this can be helpful for more video outputs for displays, troubleshooting, and some software can leverage it for special purposes like Quicksync.
so just to be clear the i7 is better than the i9 in this case?
The 10700k would be cheaper than the 9900k with better thermals as Sal said. The 10900k would be âbetterâ overall, albeit with greater cost.
