How good are they compared to PvE gear? How hard is getting rank 10 compared to raiding?
They are very good. I’ve heard comparisons to T1 and that may be appropriate. It is a good idea to farm BG rep too though, because the epic rep gear will help fill in the pieces that the basic blue set doesn’t cover.
In Vanilla, getting Rank 10 was relatively easy for someone who enjoyed PVP and BGs. Wild guess, maybe 15 hours a week for maybe 3 months. The fun part is each rank up has stuff for you, so you feel the growth as you go along.
*** you will need to sort what to do about your weapon
Wait so you are saying blizzard had a well functioning pvp system all the way back in 2005? Why is retails pvp system so terrible?
Don’t know whether you are being facetious or not, but yeah it was a fun system. I made it to Rank 12, 11 and 12 were a grind. But you can get what you need to be effective in PVP without killing yourself.
Obviously gear matters. But a person who really knows how to squeeze the best out of their class and who generally rolls with a competent team will be fine in their PVP blues.
Good, as my main focus will be BGs and WPVP. I’m fine with grinding BGs for several months.
I thought I read somewhere there is an AV quest that awards a weapon. Is this true?
Oh I was being completely serious, i was eluding to there being no pvp vendors in retail.
You know, I think that may be true. . . . Actually I think it could give a caster a great wand, and maybe an offhand, but I don’t think it would help you with a main weapon. I could be wrong though.
You can get the Icy Barbed Spear just for killing Vann/Drek for the first time. Decent 50s blue polearm.
Work your way up to Exalted and you can buy the epic Unstoppable Force. That was a lot of people’s first raid-ready weapon back then. Edit: come to think of it, I don’t think I replaced that until I lucked into a Zin’rokh drop from a Hakkar kill.
It can depend on the class.
As somebody planning on being a Resto Shaman, my blue PvP set would be terrible to use in PvE as a healer compared to my pre-raid list for phase 1.
Because people complained about hard work (and the highest ranks were a little obscene in the amount of time investment).
if you consider that the highest rank is achieved by pubstomping with a premade in WSG or AV all day long ( and really mean all day) as opposed to competing against people or your caliber in arena or rated BGs is a good system…
Eh, rank 10 will probably take you more than 15 hours/week. I’d say 25 or so, which is still not that difficult. Like you said, if you like PVP, it won’t feel like a grind.
Grind starts at r12 which I do know personally and insanity starts at 13, which I don’t know personally, but is not hard to figure out.
25hrs a week? That was what we spent in one AV on a weekend…too bad we wont have that AV anymore. I only made it to rank 6 (Knight), but that was also on my 3rd toon in Vanilla, late 2005, grinding AV to Stormpike exalted. So I would assume putting in time on your first toon from the start should net you a good rank after a few months easily.
I will be playing rogue, so I’ll need 2 weapons. Probably will just do dungeons for those.
Yes, I do call that a good system.
You like “equality ” go play a FPS.
Doing one AV for 25 hours is fun in a way, but due to deminishing returns, is not efficient for the Honor grind. Best way is of course to run PMs, but you can pug to rank 10 with no problems.
Sounds like an esport system if I’ve ever heard of one, in war not everyone is equal.
On top of that… how often is the highest ranking member of your military actually involved in combat? The smartest strategist, and tactician is usually the leader… in the case of the original pvp system it is awarded to the player who invests the most time leading his or her peers to victory in the most amount of battles.
Lol k. There’s a reason it changed. It was and remains horribly designed, where account sharing and no-lifing are rewarded, instead of skilled play.
It literally takes no skill to get R14. Just time and people willing to help. The first few R14 on my server were horrific papers that keyboard turned and clicked abilities.
Skill should be the determination, not account sharing
With the inability to account share in classic this shouldn’t be as much of an issue
Dude take a step off the RP train and listen to what you’re saying. These aren’t literal commanders and grand Marshalls. These are people poopsocking with Guilford sharing the account.
