How good are racial profession bonuses now?

TLDR: They’ve all been nerfed to the point of of having minimal impact on professions in Dragonflight.

Summary of racial profession abilities in Dragonflight:

  • Worgen (skinning), Highmountain Tauren (mining), and Tauren (herbalism) used to feel like they were 100% faster. Now they’re only 25% faster.
  • Any +10 or +15 bonuses were reduced to +5. Skill level affects nothing other than being able to learn new recipes from a trainer slightly sooner. All of the important stats are learned through the new profession journal and skills system.
  • Dracthyr have arguably the best gathering racial since it increases their chance to find rare items by 2%. Items used to learn profession knowledge (for the related gathering profession) are rare items that are sometimes acquired while gathering. However, the 2% is still fairly negligible.

I’m loving the new profession system, and I’m glad that racial bonuses really don’t compromise character choice when pursuing profession-oriented gameplay.

Isn’t your total raw skill still the primary contributing factor to getting higher quality gear? +5 isnt a lot, but starting at 105 instead of 100 is still a bonus that could feasibly put you over the requirement for an “upgrade.”
