How far are the Anniversary servers going to progress?

Are they going to be like the current classic servers and progressing through all the expansions, or are they going to stop in TBC/WotLK? I’m a fairly infrequent player, so if the servers are going to progress past Wrath I’m not terribly interested in committing my time to a character on the anni servers.

I was interested in hardcore, but knowing that I could theoretically rip a toon and then be catapulted into a new expansion because the anni server has progressed just seems…off to me.

So then with that in mind, do we know what their plans are?

we know it will advance to TBC. no other information exists.

nobody ever in the history of WoW said anything ever stops at Wotlk. That stopping station does not exist.

Honestly, with them adding Dual Spec into the game I wouldn’t be surprised if the game splinters after TBC into TBC Era and Anniversary WOTLK.

Why go through the trouble of adding Dual Spec if the servers are just going to roll into WOTLK and it gets added anyway.

Haven’t people been asking for permanent WotLK servers since they came out, though? I know demand for them spiked when they progressed to Cata. Wrath was the most popular expansion for a reason, after all.

While I’m fine if it progresses past Wrath, I hope people get the TBC and Wrath era servers they’re hoping for.

sure.

but again, at no point did any official ever mention stopping at wotlk for any service ever provided.

people have been asking for lots of things.

I think that would be pretty cool. I wouldn’t be surprised if it progressed to Classic progression either, though.

It won’t stop at tbc with the most popular xpac ever waiting next.

Classic Era HC realms go to Era servers when / if you die.

Not certain about anniversary realms tho, but if you’re not a frequent flyer then consider HC on one of the original HC realms and if you want a more traditional experience then Whitemane for PVP and Pagle for PVE or Grobbulus for RP.

The nice feature of the Era realms is they’re forever Vanilla so you have a lot of time to do as you like

Having just ripped a 19 hunter on anniversary hardcore, I can confirm that they get thrown onto the regular anniversary server (though interestingly, there’s no option to put them on the pvp server, they have to go to Dreamscythe)

How that’s gonna work when progression happens is anyone’s guess though

a lot of classes get reworked after wrath in how they play… is why people want to stop at wotlk
a prime example is after wrath hpally heals are completely different
also - that’s the only part of the story lore people care about…
think about what happens in cannon after wotlk…
there is a reason people desperately want a classic progression TO wrath but not past it

To Wrath yes - but only if we can get it without some of the changes from Classic Wrath - I’d like tio see Achievements being personal only like they were in OG Wrath.

Not certain, but if you’re looking for a sure thing and aren’t in a big hurry to do everything then Era servers are a very Good option.

Happy hunting

I’m in the same boat here. I’d love to progress my anniversary fresh buddy through every expansion, but I hope they do permanent drop-offs for those who want to stay behind in TBC and WoTLK

no, they haven’t stated and we likely wont

  1. server life is tied to engagement
  2. future announcement PR for events and shareholders

yes, they stated all expansions.

As long as they progress through LK, I’m good.
