I still consider Light itself, the fundamental energy, to be “present” or “absent.” A void of Light is still zero presence of light, not negative presence of light. But since void magic moves Light energy out of an area/object, you could say the “movement” of Light goes from +1 to -1.
Just how I see it, it’s all headcanon anyway.

Yeah definitely I understand what you’re trying to say, but you’re projecting real physics into the mix too much. You have to remember, we are dealing with magic stuff here, not hard science. -1 and 1 cancel is the main point I’m trying to drive.
While some people want to completely hate it and denounce it , the cosmic chart is still pretty accurate at showing a lot of the dichotomies of all the forces and what not. The other positions aren’t necessarily 100% correct, light and shadow are correct, since they are the originals and what everything else is derived from.
My headcannon still lingers around Chronicles 1 with light and shadow being the two most fundamental forces in regards to the creation of our physical universe. They’re opppsite, but also two sides of the same coin, as shown with the Naaru - the most light-focused beings we’ve encountered, yet capable of shifting to a void state and back into light.
Light and shadow seem in many ways to represent the duality that permeates both the physical and philosophical realms, with even most things that exist on a spectrum still being plotted as a point between two different extremes. Simply caught between the two sides.
For Discipline Priests, they refuse to give in to the extremism on either side, but recognize that through sheer force of will they are able to tap into both powers at once, even weaving shadow and light together in some of their abilities. This makes them extremely unique from a lore standpoint and is a big part of why I like my Priest so much when it comes to fantasy/flavor.
Duality can be chaotic and self-destructive, or it can be balanced to produce greater perspective and performance than ever thought possible.
They’re the stereotypical Catholic school nuns with a ruler. Hurting you is their job, not some monster’s.
There’s a light, and a dark. Disc is the grey area inbetween.
