How does wow still not have a dps meter in game?

At least we don’t have to pay Blizzard to download addons. (yet)

I just don’t like add ons. It took me a long time to break down and get DBM when a guild required it - but you don’t even need it, there are often visual and voice queues for mechanics. I just installed it because the guild required it.

I am not saying add ons should be banned or anything. I just think Blizzard should implement some of the processes to make 3rd party add ons less of an issue.

Coordinates and Damage Meters for example. I shouldn’t need an add on for those things.

I am not even disagreeing with that aspect. And if you dont like add ons that is completely fine.

I was just stating the reason listed, keeping them updated, is something that takes maybe 3 seconds every other week.

I never said they did.

I am guessing you have some sort of add on program that auto updates all your add ons or something… which would make sense for someone who likes add ons.

I don’t. So I do them manually each time. Delete old files, go to the website, download, install, takes a few minutes. For stuff that should be in the game anyway.

Since I don’t like the process or idea of 3rd party add ons, I don’t use them very much. If Blizzard rolled the functionality into the base game, that would be great.

It makes sense for anyone that uses add ons, regardless of liking them or not.

Oh, that does sound cumbersome. I do that for GW2 for ArcDPS meter there, and it requires that process. But that’s the only addon I use there.

I’m sure I missed it, sorry, but what’s your reason for not downloading an addon manager, like curseforged? Just don’t like it from a standpoint of having more on your computer? I can see that.

I didn’t have one of those on my Cessna 150.
I was operating on a budget.

That’s a separate program… to update 3rd party programs… for the base game… degrees of separation that I don’t want to participate in. It isn’t the experience I look for when playing a game.

I don’t ask add ons to be banned or anything. I just ask that Blizzard implements some of the processes into the base game where it makes sense - like damage/healing meters or coordinates.

Why would they when details does it for free and they dont have to spend any dev time working on it? Things move slow at blizz it seems i dont trust them to keep a dmg meter working properly lol.

And I get that. But it means the plight of it being so difficult to update them manually is self inflicted.

And I have no problem with that.

Sure. I don’t like add ons. Among the many reasons, they are a pain to keep updated. To make it easier, I can get another add on to manage those add ons…. But I don’t like add ons to begin with….

It is a vicious cycle that I just rather stay out of.

Who looks at damage meters the way you’ve described? :joy:

Literally no one is going to celebrate ā€œtop dpsā€ if they died in the first ten seconds of an encounter

now you’re speaking my language. just carry your garmin 296 and you’ve got all ya need!

What is the issue with downloading an a addon?

Blizzard literally has admitted they build the game around and in tandem with addons in mind. They don’t need to incorporate an addon into the base game because the community of ā€œfreeā€ developers take care of it for them.

In fact the biggest reason WoW gets away with being a hybrid esport/tryhard game to the degree it has is because addons are allowed to do the bulk of the mental load and just distill information down to a visual or audible blip for the human monkey brain to react to. If DBM and especially cheat auras ceased to exist, anything even semi resembling competitive tryhard raiding and mythic+ is dead. If the combat log became unreadable, it would be a left of bell curve’s dream because then their incompetence would be much easier to fall under the radar (though their early deaths would still tip off folks).

I don’t think people get that there should be a way to tell if you are doing good or bad in the base game. Having a great number of solid 3rd party resources to work with is nice, but having something in the base game that allows people to actually see what they are doing in a group is primarily a net good for people in the process of getting invested in world of warcraft rather then people who already are.

Also while I agree if they made it baseline it would be worse then most third party ones it doesn’t have to be. Holding blizzard to low expectations just because they tend to do as such shouldn’t be the primary argument against a feature that can only really benefit the game.

Because some people want to top it and will do anything to be at the top, like ignore boss mechanics and die. We don’t need that built into the game.

Cause it would be trash.
