So I haven’t used war mode a lot and I’m trying to get into it more since there’s gear for it. But I really don’t understand how it works. I get in the PvP areas it’s a free for all. But I was just attacked by an Ally DH, outside the PvP area, who just… phased friendly before they killed me. They were also the only of like 5 Ally Around me who were even hostile. I play on a server that has a lot of Ally people but in WM I usually end up seeing people from Tich or PM. I’d be all down for free-for-all or faction based, but it seems to be some weird phased blend from my experience. Is there anyone who can kinda lay it out for me?
Big ups to that DH, btw. I was way caught out and panicked. They way deserved the kill.
So, in War Mode, as you have already said yourself, there are some PvP areas that are free for all. The area itself gives you a sort of unique PvP flag, I’d have to check again but instead of the normal Alliance or Horde mark near your name, it’s a badge with a sword in the middle.
That is a free for all flag. This flag lasts for about a minute even when you step outside of the free for all zone, so that anyone else marked free for all is still able to kill you even outside the designated zone. If you’re familiar with Darkmoon Faire arena or Gurubashi Arena, the same rules are applied there.
What likely happened is you still had your free for all flag still active, so did the demon hunter, and when he killed you, his flag had expired or yours did.
That would actually explain it. I noticed later after being in the free for all zone and heading right to Vald that there was another that showed as attackable for a brief moment. I did not try though. Seems like an interesting mechanic. I was under the impression that like, it was an area effect as opposed to actually flagging for free for all. Ty for the reply
