How does MMR in arena work?

In RBGs, when you lose matches you get placed down to fight teams with lower MMR to try and find a match comparable to your current skill/performance level. This morning I’m running with a Warrior, we win a game, it puts us from 1698 to 1728 (enemy MMR), then we lose the 1728 and it puts us against a 1900 team, then again we lose and it puts us against a 1960 team.

Should I just quit queuing for a couple weeks until all the 2400+xp players are out of the bracket to sort of neutralize the field or something? Having to run for 5+ minutes from people with a mile long PVP feat of strength list every match is good practice I suppose, but working this hard for losses kind of sucks. lol

It changes the ammount of points per loss/win compared to the enemys mmr

Higher teams = more points gained if won, less points lost if lost.

Oh I get the CR win/loss based on MMR. Just I played RBGs all last season on 6 toons, if you won your MMR would go up and you would be placed against a team with a similar MMR, same for losing, it would go down and you would be placed against a team with a similar MMR. Towards the end of the season when less people were playing sometimes you would queue into a 2500 team or something at hundreds of MMR below them, but I wouldn’t expect that out of week 1 of a new season.

That last game was like a 350 MMR gap, and it went up by like 100 after each loss, instead of down. Lol It’s whatever I guess, just an exhausting experience for matches to get harder after each loss than easier.

Sounds like really bad luck honestly.

Actually if that’s not the norm I’m glad to hear it. I don’t mind L’s, but as close as a couple of those games were I can’t help but feel like I’d be doing better around my actual MMR. Lol But yeah was just trying to ascertain if MMR jumps off a loss were normal, thanks for the replies!

idk if blizzard even knows how it works to be honest. It seems like everytime you win 3-4 games in a row your MMR shoots up. I went from 1650-1788 without losing then I started facing 2.2k mmr teams.

Kind of makes me wish I hadn’t wasted an entire season getting good at different content to only jump ship a few months later and be a fish out of water all over again. lol Ah well, it’s still fun, … most of the time.

I’ve only played 2’s but I’ve noticed a significant lack of players between 1500 and 1900.

The first 10 games played in a new season in either the 2s or 3s bracket are considered placement games. It will give you a wide variety of skilled players to queue against to see where to accurately place your team after that.

Anytime you queue with a new person that has zero CR, the same thing will happen. Even if you personally have already played your 10 games.
