How Does Flagellation Work?

I went Venthyr just to get this ability because every guide said it was the “right” way to go, I’ve had it in my rotation ever since…but if I’m being honest I really don’t understand what it actually does.

It seems that it’s mostly a haste buff per combo point? But then I get powers in Torghast for example that make it “lash” an extra amount of times and I’m pretty confused.

Can anyone provide a clear explanation? I feel pretty dumb hitting the button every time it’s off cooldown and not really grasping what I’m actually doing.

So, besides the stats it gives, we’re going to use some simple numbers.

You have a 5 combo point Eviscerate. You apply Flagellation. Each combo point will lash for 500 damage. Since it’s 5 combo points, Flagellation lashes 5x = 2500 damage.

Ideally it’s a burst dump ability. You want to maximize how many combo point finishers you can get in during its duration.

That makes sense. I was using it with Slice and Dice as a haste boost.

So then, the optimal use of the ability would be to use AFTER having all of my necessaries (Garrote, Rupture, Slice and Dice) on the target? If this is the best way then it seems it would be better to Macro it to Envenom and forget about it. :grinning:

Thanks for the explanation, that clears it up a lot.

I don’t play assa so I don’t know specifics on it, but I’d assume once you have all bleeds up and have a 5 point ready its flag > envenom > combo spam to envenom and repeat.

It’s very good with outlaw since you can generally just instantly get back to 5p and then just spam out 5p flag damage.

Bro… Night Fae for assassination. Venthyr for outlaw, and Kyrian (or Venthyr) for Subtelty. This is meta.

As assassination you want sepsis. Garote, Rupture, Sepsis, Deadly Poison, Shiv and Vendetta. This is your insane combo.

Venthyr is very meh for Assa.

Basically you want to use as many Combo Points as you can while it’s active, so use it right before a finisher, and at high energy, at least for Assassination. Ideally you’d have SnD up, but Rupture shouldn’t matter as much since you’ll have to refresh it anyway during the buff window. Honestly, it doesn’t jive as well with Assassination as it does with Sub or Outlaw.

This is only for pvp. This is not for pve. Just making that clear.

Venthyr is the best single target Assassination rogue covenant by about 400 dps and it’s easier to play.

So, this is your opener.

Ambush, slice n dice.
Mutilate, garrote.
—————————-
Have at least 60 energy (do not wait till 80 or vendetta will lose value).

Vendetta, flagellation, rupture.
Marked for death, crimson tempest.
Vanish
Ambush, garrote, envenom.

Then keep your bleeds up. Envenom when slice n dice is about to fall off.

You will get 1 marked for death between your goes. So, marked for death during your go…. Free marked for death…. Marked for death in your next go. Vanish will be available every other go. Once you hit flagellation, you want to go HAM for 20 secs. Then you are maintaining your bleeds and using envenom to refresh slice n dice for 45 secs. Then it’s go time again. Set it up the same way.

There is a more optimal way (separating vendetta from flagellation) but it’s not really worth the headache when you can macro them together.

I feel it does. You should be using marked for death to get the 30 stack. Marked for death is a huge dps increase.

Sry i tought we are talking about pvp

I haven’t PvP’ed in many years. Never been a fan tbh. I’m glad this was clarified, I was about to switch to Night Fae :grinning:
