Returning player. I enjoy the Cooking profession and like the associated buffs. Especially the Feasts that can buff my guild mates or my party.
I noticed that as far as Fishing, there are gear items on the AH for TWW and Dragonflight. These items give specific + stats specifically for Dragonflight Fishing zones. There are the other items that give the same + Fishing stats only for TWW zones.
The confusion comes into play when interacting with Fishing vendors in Dragonflight zones(I haven’t been to TWW yet). Fishing vendors sell bobbers from Classic, that give +5 or +9 fishing.
Do all of the old school +Fishing items like Classic bobbers and the Pandaria Ned Pagel’s Fishing Spear help with fishing in DF and TWW zones? If so, why wouldn’t I just use my Dragon Fishing Pole that gives +13 fishing and that also has a +7 fishing enchant(I think it’s +7…) instead of the new Fishing poles for DF and TWW that only give +6? If the +Fishing items from Classic and Pandaria don’t help with fishing in DF and TWW, why are the classic bobbers for sale in DF zones? Why aren’t there new Fishing bobbers that are specifically for DF?
You’ll need an engineer to craft it, and a tailor for the line enchant.
I understand that. I bought one off the AH.
What I’m asking is WHY the fishing vendors in Dragonflight sell the Classic bobbers instead of new items that have + Dragonflight Fishing bonuses like the new Aqirite Fisherfriend.
Does all of the old school + Fishing gear work in Dragonflight? If so, why wouldn’t I just use my Pandaria expansion - Dragon Fishing Pole - that has +13 Fishing along with a +7 Fishing enchant instead of the Aqirite Fisherfriend that only gives +6 Dragonflight Fishing?
If the Classic + Fishing items don’t work in Dragonflight, and one would also assume TWW, why do the Fishing Vendors in DF sell the Classic bobbers? Why aren’t there new bobbers that give + Dragonflight Fishing?
What does fishing level do in the new expansion? I thought it let you fish in new spots but I can fish anywhere at level 1 apparently

Yea it does, and why the vendors sell that stuff I’ll never know.
I’m rocking the new pole with enchant and a few of the augment things, and I can catch fish in open water in TWW. That was really my objective. Oh, and when you get to TWW, there’s a potion of truesite that ups your perception, very helpful.
So then I should just use my fishing pole from Pandaria, the Dragon Fishing Pole, which has NOTHING to do with Dragonflight, because it has +13 Fishing plus +7 enchant for Fishing instead of using the DF Fisherfriend pole that only gives +6 Dragonflight fishing?
Seriously why did Blizz take the time to implement these new Dragonflight and TWW Fishing items if the new fishing items aren’t an obvious and straight up upgrade from Classic Fishing items?
This hunter is still using the Legion legendary, I’ll never stop using it, water walking and swimming, best pole in the game imho.
Perception.
Sure, you might get more base +Fishing, but considering that the base skill goes to 300 before equipment, a small +fishing gain before any weaverline upgrades is a tiny amount, while perception is only on the new rods.
Also, the “good” rod in TWW is +18 to TWW fishing baseline, in addition to the perception which puts it at a max score of +118 fishing skill from the rod and a maxed weaverline.
I feel like fishing is kind of in a confused place right now myself. Bearing in mind that presumably DF and TWW fishing gear only works in their respective zones, that means that there’s cause to have three separate sets of fishing gear: one for TWW, one for DF, and one for everywhere else.
But in addition to that, fishing gear is largely pointless because fishing skill has no effect on pools, and that’s how most players fish. Even perception is largely irrelevant because it only works on rare (blue) items. But at least perception does do something.

That’s why I made the post. Fishing is indeed all over the place and unnecessarily confusing.
I still truly have no idea how much + Fishing gear from Classic, Mists, and all the previous expansions carries over to DF and TWW. Things like bobbers, glove enchants, and the Fishing spear.
