I have just returned since quitting in MoP and enjoying how I can go back to old dungeons using chromie time.
But I dont understand how do the scaling works… Anybody can kindly explain?
In FFXIFV the party is scaled down to the level of the dungeon, how is it scaled in WoW where some members are like level 20 whole some are 40?
Are you able to access chromie time? If not, you’re probably in the category of players who have to play through BFA first.
But you pretty much talk to her and pick your timeline and you’re scaled all the way from lv 1 to 50.
Hello!
Yep I have just been queuing for wotlk dungeons. Just wondering how the scaling works when i am a level 20 compared when i am a level 40 for example…
I wouldn’t think much of it. You are basically just seeing different numbers compared to your team.
Rewards and everything will just continue to scale with you all the way to 50. XP and gear.
You can continue to shadowlands at lv 48 by the way. You might have to relog.
haha alright then. was just wondering how it all works. thank you!
The lower the levels the easier and successful is the dungeon run.
Each person sees the world as their level. That level 20 sees a level 20 mob and that level 40 sees a level 40 mob. You each do relative damage to it with the edge to lesser leveled players whose fewer moves tend to be faster and more impactful even if the raw/net damage is “less”.
It works though so just trust it.
level 10’s running dungeons have power way out of scale, as you level up in chromie time, you actually get weaker.

ahhhh good to know. does that mean the damage meters are inaccurate for chromie time dungeons?
Very inaccurate… but at the same time not inaccurate… it’s relative… the raw damage on them is wrong, but the percentages are correct.
ahh the percentages are still correct?
Ok thanks for the answers !
Basically, when you hit an enemy, your damage is converted to a percentage of their health before broadcast to other players fighting the same enemy. Since damage meters use the combat log for data collection, they read the converted damage amount. So a low level that deals 12 damage to a level scaled enemy with 50 HP reads as dealing ~12,000 to the same enemy when they are scaled up to have 50k health, even if you can only deal 1000 with the exact same ability at that higher level. The bigger the level gap is, the more insane a low level characters damage looks on a combat meter.
Honestly, FFXIV should attempt to steal/perfect the scaling system. There’s nothing more boring than getting Copperbell with one AoE attack (And some classes with zero AoE attacks).
Its kind of fun though. Running a low level MM hunter or Arcane mage with exp shut off at lv 10 or 12 or there abouts. Boring, but kind of fun still. And twink them if one cares too.
In Chromie Time, mobs are scaled to the level of the player, up to a maximum of 50 (or 51, for dungeon bosses, if a player hits level 50 in a Chromie Time dungeon).
A level 20 player sees the mobs as level 19, 20, or 21, depending on if they’re less than 50% through level 20 (mobs stay one level lower until you’re halfway through a level, to give you a chance to get higher level gear, iirc), or if the mob is a dungeon boss (which are always one level above the player, iirc).
Likewise, a level 40 player sees the mobs as level 39, 40, or 41.
