Not only did most of what they add not work. It’s pretty shotty even if it does work.
But they also broke a ton of other things completely unrelated to it.
You have to go out of your way to screw these things up…classes losing abilities. World quests not working. People unable to log in or get rewards…
Is blizzard so bad that everyone that has any clue what they are doing quit? I’d expect this kind of nonsense from an alpha build of an indie dev or something. This has no place on live servers of a TWENTY YEAR OLD GAME.
Spoken like someone who has absolutely no idea how coding works. It’s not just a Blizzard thing either. The Baldur’s Gate dev team watched a speedrun where the player was exploiting a bunch of bugs and glitches and they straight up said “we have absolutely no idea what’s causing that or how to fix it”. In massive games and systems, there is no “going out of your way” to break something. Changing a single 0 to a 1 can cause a ripple effect that breaks something fifteen stages down the line.
QA isn’t a thing anymore, the suits fired most of the QA testers. If you want a bug-free patch, you’re better off trying to travel back in time or wait a month for everyone else to report the bugs.
The sad thing is that they can probably get away with it. MMOs are scarce nowadays, and their main competitors have been dropping the ball hard for at least a full year.
And the biggest issue with that is that the talent who coded/design the foundation of the game are all gone, so now we have coders that probably try to just patch off stuff as they go.
Probably can’t touch the foundation of the code because of they break something they will have no idea how to fix it. Speaking since everything they cant seem to fix they just outright remove it…
They were having issues with the foundations even in Wrath or Cata from what I remember. They talked about how they attempted expanding the default backpack, but messing with it deleted every item and currency associated with that character and they couldn’t figure out why.
