How does animal companion work in this way?

so my question is if i put a pet in stable slot 1 and have it out with animal companion does it also level? or do i need to have that one out to get it up

Pets are always the same level as the Hunter.

You haven’t had to level a pet since Wrath IIRC.

Actually, pets in the stable don’t level. You have to bring them out to level them to your level. However, pets summoned through Animal Companion are set to your level even though their level in the stable may not be the same as yours.

I just moved a level 40 bear in my stable to the 1st stable slot. In the stable, it still shows as level 40. However, the bear that is out shows as 120 and has the same health as my Clefthoof which is on my person.
