As far as survival goes, I know that survival hunters are wanted after a certain amount of agility is reached. I think at like 6-700 agility it becomes mathematically feasible to be survival over marksmanship.
In pvp, I knew a survival hunter. He said it was a lot of fun because wyvern sting was basically a ranged ice trap. The amount of control was insane but it was a different playstyle than typical aimed shot hunters. On the flip side, being survival made you an absolute nightmare for rogues and warriors.

Your color hue is off. Adjust it to about 265° for normal viewing pleasure.

Wyvern Sting was a rare talent to take, it wasn’t actually good for much. Aimed Shot, on the other hand? It’s your bread and butter.
Survival did suck for raiding but it was awesome in every other aspect of the game, especially in PvP. The added agility from Lightning Reflexes helped with both offense and defense in PvP and really helped with crit % which was key. If you plan on playing some PvP in Vanilla you’re really going to want to take a serious look at the Survival tree. Still my fav spec of all time in WoW.
On this hunter in Vanilla I could get 3k aimed shot crits on a caster. I could one shot most mages in PvP. My auto shot would crit for about 900-1000 and would definitely kill someone in PvP who had some life left after an aimed shot crit.

Im rolling on PvP and will be rolling a Hunter first and I’m planning for Aimed Shot at 20 then down Survival for entrapment and then down BM if I don’t just go full MM

I have no plans to raid or to do serious PvP. I’m going to take my time leveling and just enjoy the ride. The specc itself is for the purpose of Wyvern Stinging people out in the world and hitting them hard with Aimed shot.
