I made a new Elf and leveled up to 11 before going to the Stormwind Vendor’s shop. I was not PVP. I don’t play PVP. After making the Vendor my Home, someone came in and killed me. Then they immediately left. This happened at 3:00 AM. The server is very, very low use, even in the daytime. But this was early in the morning. I had seen no one on my trip to Stormwind and no one in Stormwind other than NPCs. After my death, I checked my PVP status in the cemetery and it was NOT flagged PVP. So, does anyone know how this can happen? Perhaps there is a bug that someone is taking advantage of? I verified with my statistics because I could not believe it happened, but I have one death recorded.
Update: I also checked my PVP statistics and the death was not recorded there. In fact, it is not recorded anywhere except as a simple death with no further catagory.
How does a new Alliance character in the Stormwind Vendor's shop die via PVP when not marked as PVP?
This sounds like a job for The Sword of a Thousand Truths.
There are a few ways to kill friendly targets. During Legion, there were rare fish you could catch. One of them was a shark that would flop erratically and do pretty decent damage to anyone it hit. It worked like an on use item, with a 1 minute timer to summon it. I would catch one, then use the guild cloak to teleport to SW then drop it in the middle of the AH. It would absolutely merc low level toons and Bank alts. Cracked me up every time.
For a while the nzoth toy, which allows same faction kills in wm, also worked out of wm and you could attack non-wm/non-pvp flagged same faction. I thought that had been fixed though, but maybe not.
You can’t even use the N’zoth toy in non BfA areas, so that’s not it.
There were stories about this kind of thing happening years ago. Sounds like a dev got you.
