How do you unlock Dornogal gate in stormwind?

I recently returned to game and I have the war within and trying to get to Dornogal but the gate doesn’t appear for me.

You have to do the initial quests for The War Within

you at least need to play through the starter quest to activate the portion of the game.

this is correct. You have to do the starting quests in Dalaran with Khadgar and Magni. once Dalaran explodes and crashes into Khaz Algar, then you can unlock Dornogal. Otherwise, the city remains in ruins, and the portal never gets opened.
