How do you socialize in WoW in 2020?

So…as I get older (I’m 35 now), I get a sense that I am way out of touch with how things work now, in terms if meeting new ppl and making friends here. Not just in WoW, but in gaming culture as a whole perhaps. Haha…I work a lot and don’t have tons of time, but I miss having internet friends to run around with, hang out or go kill stuff with in WoW, and I’m not sure where to find that these days. Cities and normal chat channels seem mostly dead. When I used to play semi-hardcore (in my early-mid 20’s), most of the socializing and meeting of new people happened in various public zone chat channels in-game. Now it seems like there is some special new way to meet folks, and I missed the memo :stuck_out_tongue:. I know a lot of you are at least my age or older, so it’s not an issue of not fitting in with the young kids (which…I teach high school and honestly am not looking to hang out with a younger crowd anyways, at freaking all), I think I just need to wake up to modern tech stuff or something. I’ve used discord a little, I honestly don’t love it, but I am flexible I guess.

I’d like to meet a guild or group of folks to hang out with, and get to know them while I still do my solo stray cat thing 60% of the time. Is that silly/dumb?

What’s your social experience like in WoW these days?

The forums, I don’t even play the game anymore.

Don’t just rely on in-game interactions. If you find a group/guild that has a Discord, join it and hang out when people are around. Don’t make yourself a loner.

I was solo for the most part until this expansion. I just happened to meet a good community and a great guild while pugging raids.

More stalker than socialize. I tend to notice other ‘solo casual’ players in their guild of themselves like me. So I equated an emote to each of them and whenever I see them they get their /emote and I run off and hide! I’m also 35 and this is perfectly normal behavior.

Other games in the past. I made a lot of friends on the forums here and we ended up playing a LOT of Pokemon. This was around the time of X and Y I think. They helped me get a lot of shinies and we’d help each other get strong dittos

As Epheria said, the forums. I rarely talk to anyone in-game anymore, ocasionally there’ll be spurts of it but over the course of a long period of time I don’t talk to many people. I cut down my battletag from just over 100 people down to 45, now it’s back up to 53. Add people and they don’t say anything or never end up interacting with them, ever.

I honestly have zero clue to this day, even playing since 2004.

For reference I’m 29 and I feel very out of touch.

I wish I had time to socialize with a guild but as I got older had to tighten up my priory’s, don’t have time waste interacting with people I don’t even know or will ever see in person. plus my kids and fiancé start barking orders or need me time to get off the new idiot box called PC

Find a good guild with a discord and events. My guild is awesome, stuff going on every other day and everybody’s helpful. I’m more of a loner myself, but I enjoy at least feeling semi-social by watching guild chat lol

From what I gather, most socialization in WoW moved to Discords. I only have one monitor, so I don’t care. So I don’t socialize…lol

Also it’s REALLY hard to socialize in game BECAUSE ALL THE PEOPLE I KEEP MAKING NEW FRIENDS WITH ARE ALLIANCE

It’s like finding out “oh…you only play alliance…” and then Careless Whisper plays

i haven’t socialized with anyone in-game since 2011 when i did arenas.

edit: i do talk in-game but it’s the small talk that you’d expect from total strangers; like giving directions and such. nothing close to how RL drinking buddies would chat

I had to move to an RP realm for socialization.

Can’t be social anymore, because you’ll get reported for it if you say something they don’t like. I only talk to my BNET friends.

I play both sides, we could be friends! Except I don’t actually play the game. I literally pay a sub for forum access.

Haha, I approve :stuck_out_tongue:

You are not obligated to play just 1 character. I’m not sure I follow this train of thought, at all. Moreso for people who don’t do competitive content. Really, just have an Alliance toon at 120 and you can play with them. Is that too much to ask?

I use trade chat to shoot the crap with random people on my server.
