A guildie told me it’s related to renown but I asked a GM and they said that it isn’t necessarily the case but wouldn’t give me a direct answer and said I needed to ask here

Can you see the tuskarr fishing holes on your map? They all have a large lunker sighting spot at them.
it looks like a big fish tail.
The lunker spot itself doesn’t show on the map, you have to look for the giant… fish-tail looking totem along the shore.
You can tell when a lunker is up just by the sound plus the couches are an indicator there’s a possibilities one would show up but that not always the case. Be mindful the gigantic lunkers can pull you through the map! Happy fishing !

2 up currently, one in Waking Shores and the other is in Thaldrazsus.
These are where the “Large Lunker Sightings” are.
For Massive Lunkers, you need to throw 5 ominous conch where the large lunker sighting is, this can also trigger the rares.
For Small lunkers those appear after you fish up or loot an ominous conch, you have to let the “looking for lunker” finish casting.
Those are fishing holes,their not lunker holes . I had them show up on the pools on the mountains areas of the plains.
Oh even small lava pools<not kidding lava lunkers!
I only see one, in waking shores.
