Out of curiosity, which was brought on by the rather contentious abbreviations for the 11th expansion, how many of you actually read/say the abbreviation, versus just translating it automatically?
I.e., if you see SL do you say the letters S L out loud or do you say Shadowland?
I say S L and probably just War for TWW. BfA was B F A, or if I have to put in a lot of effort for those of us who aren’t acronym nerds and don’t play WoW I just say the name of the expansion.
This is how I refer to all them in my head or when I’m talking to my husband/kid:
Vanilla - og wow (I say “wow” not the acronym)
TBC - The Burning Crusade
Wrath - Wrath
Cata - Cata
MoP - MoP (I say the acronym not “mop”.)
WoD - Warlords
Legeion - Legion
BfA - BfA
SL - Shadowlands
DF - Dragonflight
TWW - The War Within
It varies. I’m definitely more inclined to say the actual name of an expansion rather than an abbreviation i think. Though some can be shortened for speech easier than others: Wrath, Mists. Whereas TBC, I’ll often say “TBC”, or i guess just “BC”. Same with BFA actually. Just depends on the words in the title and how well they actually identify the thing.
