I really like the monks’ gameplay, but the fantasy aspect I really can’t get behind. I love the zen and meditation part, but I don’t jive with the Kung Fu Panda part. I am rolling right now as a brawler, boxer monk instead. Does that ruin it? Do you have any other suggestions to make the fantasy part better and more of a Warcraft feel?
It’s time for you to look inward and start asking yourself the big questions—who are you and what do you want?
I jump every time I RSK.
I go “Hyayayayayayayayaayay!!” when I FoF.
There’s a DBZ and Jojo’s Bizarre Adventures addon specifically for monk that plays sfx from those shows over your abilities. You will literally hear Goku’s Kamehameha when you Chi Burst.
No. I enjoy doing it myself, lol.
I don’t roleplay per say, but I do have a backstory for my character. It doesn’t involve the kung fu punchy kick part of the class at all. It focuses more on the peace, balance and inner Chi aspect. I’m not going to post the story here though, mostly bc no one really cares but also bc you’d have to scroll for a long time to skip the wall of text.
My Blood Elf Monk is what I call an Arcane Brawler, she has learned to weave spells into her physical combat style… which mostly revolves around hitting stuff really hard.
Background wise she was angry and could barely function as a member of society. The Blood Elves joining the Horde was what ultimately saved her. She met a Troll warrior who repeatedly left her bruised but otherwise unharmed. Slowly she realized he was training her, and she learned to respect him and through him the rest of the Horde. She eventually made friends with a pair of Shaman, an Orc and a Tauren who taught her their ways and about the flow of spirit through the body and the world. She realized it was similar to the training her mother and father had attempted to impart upon her and she returned home where she resumed her studies into magic and had the breakthrough learning how to unleash her power to harm and protect. She studied with Forsaken apothecaries as a means of better understanding the body and through them learned to heal. She is extremely loyal to the Horde, more so than even her own people. She known, beyond a doubt that she’d be dead had she not met the people that were a part of the Horde, without their incites, kindness and understanding of the rage that boils her blood she wouldn’t have found a path forward into a future that she might one day be proud to call her past.
My monk cares about chi & harmony, that is, he usually just sits in my lineup meditating and only makes an appearance when the class balance is disrupted and MW is way OP.
…strange to think
how much easier it is to RP mist or brew… but WW is kinda cringe.
Will you open a tea shop ?
I don’t RP in the traditional, way, but like others here, I keep a sort of headlore story for my monk.
My monk is almost strictly WW, I’ll only tank if absolutely needed. That being said, my general attitude is that my monk is not part of the drunken brawler group. Instead he’s kind of a classic vengeful father figure blinded by rage — but who finds peace in his monkhood.
The burning blade weapon mog + red tinted gear + Firelord title all speak to his fury creeping back out.
My character name is because my orc parents were Panda weebs.
So… This is going to sound absolutely stupid… but several of my characters on my account I started imagining my own lore for them with the intention of it eventually becoming my own short-story or novel or comic or something?.. (Names subject to change, because some of them are stupid.)
A family of 4 orcs, a father, his 2 sons and 1 nephew, and his soon adopted daughter, all went to war and the father fell to the Lich King. The Warrior, the oldest of the brothers, Went on with what his father would have done and continued in the war campaign, going on to fight Deathwing… The second brother decided he was done fighting because all it has done has resulted in death, so he went off with a group of explorers, later reunited with his brother on Pandaria long after he adopted the title Monk… The “brother-in-spirit” nephew to the father, raised like close family, decided he wanted to learn more about their heritage and went exploring among the old clan ruins scattered across Azeroth, Outland, and Draenor (an adventure the others did not go on) In his adventures he met a young orc female imprisoned by the Laughing Skull cannibals… He broke her free and decided to train her in his own agile combat style. She later developed a talent for befriending beasts…
so… In Classic on to Wrath, I mained a Warrior (who for the sake of the account, died and ressurected as a DK with the same name, on a different server)… Then I had to get my own account (long story) and decided to make a new warrior during Cata (the oldest brother), then during Pandaria i changed my main to a Monk, then WoD I started playing my Rogue alot and started a survival hunter in Legion… So thats the story of my 5 most played characters. Lol.
Getting back into Monk, I play Brew and WW.
And with a legendary name, both specs are one with my kung fu. Especially Brew, becoming the Drunken Master just feels… right
Honestly I really enjoy the king fu panda fantasy. In a more serious Chen stormstout kind of way.
