I can’t play right now because I don’t have a sub, but while endgame and the expansion overall is poop for me, I do miss the RP servers, the lore, and how playing used to be, and I started thinking about this topic and wanted to come post here (if I can, since I don’t have a sub and would be shocked if this actually goes through).
So, back to the question - how do you RP as a Lightforged Draenei now!??
Like, I love how they look but I’ve always feared RPing them would be pretty restrictive - more than literally any other race.
Would it be acceptable to make Lightforged Draenei more “Azerothian” now? Like since they’ve been a part of the Alliance for a while some have gone a stray a bit and like work as mercenaries, informants, and like develop romantic interests/etc. Or no, are Lightforged Draenei still expected to have a very rigid background and story where they’re light obsessed, only with each other, don’t care about romance, don’t care about anything else at all but yay light, yay naaru, yay working for the light, yay working for the naaru, yay yrel!??
Thanks for any info/responses <3 <3
The Legion is gone, and life moves on.
Some of us have moved on with it. Some haven’t…their loss.
As any other Draenei. I don’t really see a difference other than appearance.
I’ve seen some played as war vets, some played as newly forged, retired, and even some as AU Yrel soldiers… it all amounts to how you RP it, really.
I’ll give you an outside look as someone who doesn’t RP anymore.
You’re a Draenei
But lightforged.
And no Legion.
Maybe it’s because we got our first snow today, but a song from the movie “White Christmas” comes to mind . . . “What do you do with a General, when he stops being a general?” The light forged Draenei’s entire purpose no longer exists. So what now? Will you continue to blindly follow the Naru, will you explore other interpretations of how to follow the light? Will you integrate into the society of your “vanilla” Draenei kin?, or the dwarves, or the Kaldorei, or the etc. etc.? Will you chuck it all and go crazy? Lots of potential.

Yeah, interesting thoughts here. When one’s sole purpose is gone, what’s next? I could see a swing through the PTSD world. (PTSI, in my opinion. It’s an injury, not a disorder. Anyway)
Perhaps a jaunt into Darkness? The Naaru have tossed you aside, you did your duty, and now are no longer needed. The righteousness of Yrel could send a Lightforged to the Scarlets. Another ‘righteous’ cause
Just about every Lightforged is basically a warrior without a war. So, I imagine what they do depends on how they handle being away from a cosmic war for the first time in actual millennia. Some people would decide to move on, while others might be trying to find the fight to keep up the purpose they gave themselves to.
Personally I’ve always found it odd that a Draenei would integrate to Azerothian society; it seems a bit odd for the most ancient mortal race to our awareness to want to imitate the ephemeral cultures around them that have existed for perhaps a blink of an eye. Could chalk it up to being guests, but even on Draenor the Draenei preferred to keep to their own culture rather than try to meld with anyone else’s. But some might, that’s your prerogative.
I feel like Yrel sort of gave the worst appearance of the Lightforged as evangelical zealots, but it’s not the sole impression. I always saw the Lightforged as so wholly selfless that they were ready to shape themselves into tools of war and place themselves between who knows how many worlds and the Legion. The path to becoming Lightforged isn’t one someone takes without a lot of sacrifice of your own desires. Acquiring those desires again, learning to live life for yourself again, without war, is probably a good hook for a journey.
Edit: It was brought up whether or not there was a difference between Lightforged and Draenei as a whole. Think of Lightforged to Draenei as Paladins are to the rest of human society. Paladins are those individuals who are passionate in their desire to protect and fight the battles for those who never could. While the Draenei fled the wrath of the Legion, the Lightforged were the ones who chose to fight them at every turn.
Lightforged are more of a profession than a race, I feel, and taking up that profession implies an underlying motivation that is distinct from what most Draenei have. Not necessarily personality - the personality can be whatever the player feels best. But that’s basically the difference.

You can go a lot of different ways with it. With the Legion destroyed, you’re still a fanatical Light infused super soldier. For someone like that, Azeroth would be shocking. There are undead, there are fel users, and any number of impure beings. You can rp the struggle of your fanatical, hyper Orthodox view of the Light against the more liberal view of it on Azeroth.
I’m not a Harry Potter fan and I don’t have a Lightforged, but I always thought it would be fun to have one that basically becomes Dolores Umbridge.
