How do you MOG?

Do you see a weapon and make a mog to fit it or do you have a theme in mind?

Not super exciting in the world that is xmog, but I’ve been mogging this bow over everything since the day I got it (which the armory does a terrible job showing).

Oh, and helmets go away the moment they are replaced.

I usually start with a main piece (weapon, shoulder or the rare exciting chest) and build up from there. Most times I put together a look that I don’t have most of the components to and start the grinding, but I also lose interest if it takes too many weeks to complete.

I look at the current mog set I have on. Then I browse through the weapons and check to see which ones work the best.

I wait for classic and mog in anticipation of classic.

I generally pick armor first, then weapons and/or off hands.

Usually just use Tier 6 mogs as I still think they are among the best ever made.

It depends. Usually I’ll have a piece I want to work into a xmog, sometimes a weapon, sometimes a helm or other piece.

I’ll go into the xmog interface and set that piece first, then work my way along from that starting point, trying out different pieces until I get a set that I like the look of. Generally something color coordinated and otherwise matching my personal aesthetics (minimal spikes, mostly conservative, usually shoulders that aren’t bigger than my character’s head).

You match too much. Need to look more hilarious.

Slap on some purple gloves or something.

I look at the armour that I want to do, then find a weapon that fits the armour. I want to try a mog out with a weapon that looks good to me.

You’re right.

I’ll need to clownify boots and gloves when I get home tonight. Not like there’s much else to do in bfa anyway.

I usually pick a piece I want to build a mog around, then go from there. Usually, it’s a shoulder or chest, but I have built them around weapons and belts before.

I concur, tier 6 is probably the most consistently good looking armor across all the classes.

I’ve a general theme in mind. This one for an example is the best I could do to make a druid night warrior. Purple representing the Night Warrior and green representing the druidism-side of my character.

I started with a couple premises:

  1. A cloth outfit with pants - no robe.

  2. Black and Gold. If not a solid Black, dark gray or so.

Then, I built it over time piece by piece with that in mind. I was very happy when they announced Blood Elves could have Golden Eyes. I could have eyes to match my Mog!

Not to be conceited, but I am often complimented on the Forums and In Game for my Mog, which I am always appreciative of. I put it together myself as I found items over the while, and I am very fond of the outcome.

I think most have my characters have a theme for their Mog. My Warlock’s theme boiled down to: Black and Gold with Pants.

I usually find shoulders or a helm I like. Then mog around those.

I normally find a piece that I really like, whether it be a shoulder piece, chest or something… and then I start going through the other items and try to find pieces that match in color and style. They might be parts of a set, but seldom do I do a complete set as a tmog.

About the only ones are my new KT heritage set, but I still don’t use 100% of the pieces… and my horde rogue that is the only race/class that looks good in the ICC Shadowblade set.

I mog around the zones I’ll be in for the expansion.

Zuldazar and the like are hot as balls and I’m not gonna be running around in 200 pounds of plate.

I usually try to find pieces that fit together both thematically and color wise.

What I don’t like is that the challenge artifact appearance for kitty druids and the like is gated behind the weapon mog. I really wish these were actually selectable forms or something. Just a pet peeve. For example I don’t really like my character being forced to wield/carry the fangs of ashamane just to have the glowy kitty challenge artifact appearance. I would rather wield a polearm or something like that.

It varies. Sometimes I build armor mogs based off my weaons and sometimes vice versa. For this tank spec, it was armor first, weapon second. For my dps spec, I used the BE Heritage and I searched for a good matching weapon - which turns out to be Muramasa blade from Sunwell.
