Hit stuff. Like a lot. And make fun of their moms or taunt.
It can be tough holding aggro when someone has max gear for their level and are doing insane damage. Near impossible. These are called “twinks” they can practically solo the dungeon.
That being said, if you are the first to damage something, it helps significantly. If people are running ahead it can be difficult.
Tab targeting (using tab key to cycle through targets) this can help spread damage between mobs and you will want to do this constantly.
Pressing taunt on cooldown does help, especially for enemies you haven’t damaged yet. It can also be used on ranged enemies.
As long as you are using abilities and don’t have huge downtime between pressing skills then you should start to get the hang of it.
At level 30, the gear disparity between different random players can be massive.
You could have a tank still using their starter sword from the first area, while somebody else has a triple-gemmed and enchanted heirloom weapon or something from a dungeon end-boss or final quest reward.
Mobs know you are a Tank so just swing anything near them, It’s like bees to nectar.
Lead with avengers shield then blessed hammer then consecration.
Used blessed hammer off cd as it spins and hits everything around you. Same with consecration, that should be 100% up time.
Shield of the righteous should also cleave and adds defensives.
If your survivability is fine, try swapping auras to ret.
If the threat problems persist, I’d look at gear tbh.
Try “Enable Action Targeting” in the settings
It takes roughly 4 minutes to casually solo SMBG on a twink without crazy skips.
“practically” is an understatement lol
It’s not just that but Blizzard doesn’t like bad words.
Just run as fast as you can and cast as many Avengers Shields as possible. If you never get out of combat people can’t initiate a vote kick.
This. Keep it up constantly, if you can (and once you get a few key talents, you can).
By Taunting ofc…
so basically say horrible things about the enemy’s moms…and appearance if a leper gnome, and they will all try to jump you np!
Uhh like just press W (aka just do it) bro. Things are pretty much autopilot for like all content except the stuff that matters at end game.
Like…press buttons? Tanking and threat gen are only potentially challenging at max level when you have massive gear disparities as well as a bursty DPS spec…and paladins are the best tank (as well as monk) to handle mass AOE burst threat anyway.
People running ahead and aggoring things is a sign he’s going way too slow. Leveling dungeons are bonkers easy and it’s almost impossible to actually wipe since nothing is actually that dangerous. If he’s pulling 1 pack at a time, he’s going much too slow.
But really, push buttons that do damage and threat works itself out at low levels. It is literally that simple.
Someone mentioned it earlier, but it could very well be they’re doing WoD dungeons and running into Twinks every run, because that’s where all the twinks go.
It’s like being massively outgeared at max level x10. And a lot of twinks that queue randoms tend to hold W and not care if there’s a mob that freecasts on random targets or whatever, because it’ll catch up at a boss or something and die eventually.
This and you dont have all the tools you need. Some DPS specs are just insane at certain break points. Just keep trucking on and learning and eventually he’ll be in a better place.
Scaling in leveling dungeons is a hot mess. It’s very easy for lower level characters to pull aggro from a higher level tank. A level 10 mage spamming arcane explosion or a priest spamming holy nova or a monk spamming spinning crane kick will almost always pull aggro.
Best thing for tank to do is spam their own aoe spells and single target taunt when necessary. Once you get to max level it will even out and be a lot more difficult for DPS to pull aggro. Just try to weather the occasional toxic idiots the best you can and know it’s most likely not your fault, but the fault of crappy scaling in leveling dungeons.
Press literally any button. Win.
In leveling dungeons, people sperg out and pull constantly for the tank. Best thing to do is vote kick them and move on
A level 10 or 11 lv arcane mage can steal aggro in a leveling dungeon often. Shadow Priest can do a bit too at sometimes.
