How do you guys have fun with your alts?

This is a trap I found myself stuck in playing wow, when there is more than 1 class I find it interesting and would want to play with, just looking at midnight alpha right now for example Dk, devourer dh, survival hunter, warlock, shadow priest, ret paladin, shaman, they look really cool each one of them.

Back in shadowlands release, there were 3 i wanted to focus on, unholy dk, sub rogue and shadow priest… so the 3 were my mains, on release i leveled the 3 back to back to max level, and then did all m0 with the 3 before m+ was up, did the thorghast thing, and i even tried to raid with dk on one core, shadow priest on another core, running m+, doing the chores, it literally consumed 95% of time, wake up, do everything, eat at the computer, finish and go to sleep.
well… that was the fastest burnout of my life, 1 month in after i cleared castle nathria normal 1 time, i quit.

I learned my lesson since then, but I wanna have fun with more than 1 class and spec… and i feel like power is also a component when it comes to doing content and enjoying what your class has to offer, having the correct secondary stats, have the 4 tier set, raiding, m+ (i won’t say pvp, cause pvp is a easy barrier of entry).

Which is why i wanna ask, how do you guys have fun with your alts?

Well, I’ve levelled each class about 3 times now, I usually play them until I get bored, right now I only have 6 classes (healer classes) and rotate through those, got a lot of deleted toons which you can restore infinitely if they’re level 80.

i tried picking a topping 4 for warband but ended up with 6 mains.

I tend to settle on one main to play through the story with. Usually my male human ret pally. Alt order is determined these days by which tier sets I want most. And so it’s all about delves.

Typically I have one character that I focus on and the alts are just there for if I decide I want to pvp or pick up world quest. If I wanted to sit down and have each one do their weeklies it would end up being like a full time job. Nobody has time for that. They can gather dust.

Let me start by saying I have 66 level 80’s

Each season I mostly play 2-3.

I switch every season.

I don’t min/max or see the point. You can say get Mythic gear and max it out with upgrading, but why? Next season all that work = out the window.

I play toons just enough to finish goals, then just play whatever I feel like playing.

My guilds tend to be cool with me bring in alts when I get bored and we have the content on farm.

Like this character, she’s done for the expansion. Got my 3k M+, got my AOTC, do I need gear? Nah.

Right now I am just playing remix on my newest level 80.

It’s a game, don’t think about “I have to do X”

Think about “what am I in the mood to do/play today”

I agree with that sentiment, in my case i did mention power as a component to feel your class in action on what it can really do… there are situations where this is not the case at all, for example, timewalking dungeon leveling with a character you had such a high ilv that you basically can solo the entire dungeon alone, it feels very fun, but its a temporary fun, and the npc to freeze leveling apparently doesn’t work for high levels (shame, i could have sold leveling services in timewalking as well).

what bothers me in this regard, is that it reduces what fun activities i can do on weak max level alts to basically pvp, getting a full honor gear and go bg… without proper ilv, i can’t enjoy raiding or dungeons with weak alts.

Know what to limit yourself to. Maybe you just have one that only heals M+, one that only does raid, etc.

I find that method makes alts more manageable.

its what i currently do, but I still miss out on the fun of other classes… for example, I really like shadow priest, I never did any content with it besides leveling and a bit of pvp, it feels like i’m missing it out.

Maybe take a break on your main to learn it and do content you want on your Shadow Priest.

I have many Mains that I play regularly, and a LOT of level 80 Alts that have ‘jobs’, related to Achieves, pets, mounts and Transmogs.

One farms Korthia for the Forsworn Regalia Dailies, one is parked in Mechagon, another in Nazjatar, my Alliance Druid lives in DF Emerald Dream, my BE Hunter just finished making all the Zereth Mortis Mounts and is now working on the rest of the pets, and I have two Mages in ZM as well, farming rare Transmogs.

There’s more, I just can’t remember, lol.

I also have a lot of level 30 Bankers! (For their Guild banks.)

I’m usually very busy in WoW, and it’s fun. I love all my Characters. :white_heart:

I wouldn’t think that my answer is what you’re looking for but I’ll give it to you anyway. I do whatever I feel like each time I log in. If I feel like leveling a gnome BM hunter, I’ll do that. If I don’t have one I’ll make one. I might log in and fish, or collect herbs, or farm old achievements, or pet battle, do delves, tmog, you get the idea. I don’t do traditional end game stuff beyond the occasional LFR or dungeon so I don’t care about my ilevel either. I have about 36 characters with at least half at max level and I have fun with all of them.
My play style might not be for everyone but it’s very chill and suits me perfectly. If I wasn’t having fun I wouldn’t be playing.

I think most altoholics are pretty okay with something between “getting to max level” and “delve gear is enough” which pretty much eliminates the need to worry too much about keeping up on the chores and not falling behind the curve to keep getting invited to content etc.

You don’t want alts, you want more mains, which as you found out isn’t sustainable beyond a certain point for most people.

Not much you can do tbh.

If you don’t play enough to at least maintain the M+ Vault Row on multiple characters (without hating yourself), you won’t keep your “alts” caught up and they’ll feel weak vs your actual main and therefore less fun in content.

Kinda just how it is.

I keep one alt (a different one each season) at max gear in case I want to pivot. Other than that, I do nothing with them anymore. This season’s alt is BM Hunter.

I usually start off playing about 4 classes. After a few weeks it’s usually down to 2. I get drawn to the ones that are the most fun and just stop playing the ones that are less fun.

Plus I have other games to play. That motivates me to play fewer classes and less wow in general. I prefer it that way.

I really only have “one” of each role.

One tank, one melee DPS (this guy), one healer, etc.

I’ve tried most classes and specs and only play the ones I resonate with.

I actually see Midnight as a completely different game. Unfortunately, I don’t see anything optimistic in the class reworks. The easier the gameplay becomes for me, the worse it feels — I just can’t immerse myself in the game under such conditions.

I have 13 druids and 5 priests. Ask someone else.

i wanted to do all content but unable to actually realize it. still i always pick 3 classes every seasons and follow through as i see fit

1 tank, usually between DK, monk, druid
1 healer, usually between evoker, monk, druid
1 pure dps for pvp, usually between hunter, rogue, lock

All these classes are level 80 on both alliance and horde and picked accordingly

Alts are great for farming instances and can leave it at the location of the instance so you don’t have to travel around on your main.
