so, i am a clown for saying modern games are not that great these days? the combat and the graphics themselves in games are a lt better but plot wise it’s garbage depending on the company
I dunno. The current GOTY was just “you a lil robit. go save your robit friends!” and it was adorable and fun
No, mostly because every post you make does lol.
Wukong was so freaking mid honestly
okay, if u dont like it then put me on ignore lol doesnt hurt me in the slightest i just make posts for fun doesnt always mean im being 100% serious but ok ill wear the title of clown bit unoriginal but whatever wrks for u
Again, why would I put you on ignore? I enjoy the show lol.
I think gaming is great right now. So much choice and variety compared to 30-40 years ago.
Heck I even love a lot of the remakes. Wizardry 1 remake is epic.
I dunno I kinda think you’re a clown but I mean that in a good way.
Heck I’ll take your topics over some the usual garbage people post.
I get why people don’t vibe much with all the remakes. But I dunno. I think its sweet seeing a old rusty / dusty game getting picked up. And lovingly restored and improved.
( the bad remakes however deserve all the scorn. I’m still mad about Pokemon Pearl and Diamonds “remakes”. )
It’s actually kind of funny, in retrospect.
I agree that the corporate greed has left a VERY ugly stain on the gaming industry as a whole… but depending your interests, it’s surprisingly easy to insulate yourself from most of it if your favoured games & series are outside the worst practices.
If you do, then gaming is looking pretty good.
If you don’t… ouch, it just looks awful, even just looking from the outside in.
So what’s generally doing well?
- Indie games.
- “Passion Project” titles from experienced developers with full creative control (Elden Ring and BG3, not quite sure what to call them).
- Nintendo’s various franchises.
The future’s bright if that’s your main focus… but for the western AAA market, it looks quite bleak.
Hmm… curious. Which games from the genre have you tried?
And what didn’t work for you in them?
It’s a very wide & varied genre – RPGs in general are – so it’s possible that you simply didn’t find a good “entry point” for it.
Mostly saying this because JRPGs is seem to be quite quite well as a genre lately, and could easily see a resurgence over the next few years.
When I was twelve I had E.T. on the Atari 2600. Video games are so much better now.
Yeah that’s fair. You’re reminding me of that Pool of Radiance remake in 2000. That was so bad I was able to return it for store credit and get DAOC instead.
Speaking personally, the only remakes I tend to have a problem with are the literal ones, like the Resident Evil remakes or the recent Silent Hill 2 one, wherein it’s technically a brand-new game. They may be fine iterations in their own right, but I can’t help but feel like their existence negatively affects preservation of the originals (what may be more precisely defined as a remaster), as those in charge of the IPs may be less likely to invest in elevating the original to be accessible and playable on modern systems when the remake already exists.
How the heck can you say SH2s remake was bad? Both it and the OG have reasons to be valid in their existence.
Also a lot of the OG Team Silent folks were allowing Bloober Team to change some stuff. A big one being the entire Abstract Daddy sequence. Or even the slight design tweaks since they have better tools to work with. Like the twitching of the Bubble Nurses heads or how even something like PH’s apron thingy being tied differently. ( or heck how you don’t really see the “tongue” PH has usually. So that got tweaked )
It’s fine.
You occasionally get some really good games. You occasionally get some really bad games. You mostly get a lot of forgettable 6/10 games.
It’s like music, people look back 20, 30 years, but they only remember the stuff that was able to survive that long in memory because it was good. In the 2030s, people will be like “man, remember when gaming in the 2020s was great, they cranked out such hits like BG3 and Elden Ring! Why cant we get games that good again?”.
I just want a fun, active/populated, well designed, well operating, minimal-bloat MMO with large-team, strategic PvP battleground maps (NOT just “world PvP”) with relatively low queues. I have not heard of any other game that can provide this. The closest might be ESO, but when I check their forums people aren’t happy either.
Like I said, they may be fine games in their own right. My concern is more so with the practice itself, and how it may potentially affect preservation of the originals.
The games that focus too much on PvP don’t tend to be very successful.
Konami was doing enough bad with Silent Hill preservation. Heck the way they handled Silent Hill is kinda why the remake for 2 had to happen.
It was either that or the crappy HD remaster collection. Or forking over a crap ton of money to buy a old copy of the og game. Or having to play a fan made PC enhanced edition of the og.
oh no, it’s skibidi!
