How do you feel about the Microsoft merger?

According to the news, the FTC may block the Microsoft acquisition of Activision Blizzard.

Do you, as players, care at all? Is this something you wanted to see happen?

These reviews happen all the time but the FTC rarely outright blocks a merger as these things don’t go ahead unless the legal team is very confident they have everything in place.

In all likelihood, the most they will do is impose some conditions on the sale and allow it to proceed.

The EU will no doubt request something as well. They usually do.

threatened investigations often bring large donations to the party in control…

a fact of modern day government…

I was hopeful that Microsoft might have some plan for the future of wow. Phil Spencer did say that he wanted to see more people playing wow. But since then a lot of things have happened that didn’t seem to have that result.

Consumers are the last consideration of any corporate merger. What I think has no bearing on anything. Not even the FTC actually cares. This is just political grandstanding because the proposed merger wouldn’t be a monopoly by any stretch of the word.

probably as indifferent as when Daimler was merged with Chrysler

I guess by your narrow definition of the word “monopoly”, which seems to mean “100% market share”, it wouldn’t. But that’s not what this is about.

Microsoft wouldn’t even be the top market leader after the merger. They would come in at #3 or so and still have to capitulate to Sony to make it happen.

I feel that if the merger happens it has the potential to be beneficial to the Activision and Blizzard properties. I guess we’ll see what happens though.

Nothing I can do about it so I don’t care. I just hope it’s a good thing instead of a bad.

Pretty much going to be the same expletive just different company owning. So don’t care either way.

Elon announced he’s considering buying the company. His reasoning was to remove woke ideology from video games and make them great again. My guess is the FTC, which is right wing, will block the merger, allowing Elon to buy them.

Elon will fire most of the folks who work there, build a hardcore version of Blizzard.

If they can make the classes fun again, I am all for it. The DF trees are the first step in a line of many steps needed to make them fun again imo. Just need to add in traits from Legion weapons, Az traits and Torghast traits and we’ll be cooking.

If they do a season pass fortnight BS they can shove it. That just means they are going heavy into e-sport BS that I am not a fan of and the game is then completely dead to me.

Fantasy MMO > e-sports games

I could not care less. Microsoft isn’t going to barge in and make massive changes to how the game plays when the merger inevitably goes through. They’re just going to market the thing to try and get some money out of it.

Don’t care either way. It’s not likely to have any impact on us as players regardless.

They didn’t block the Tmobile/Sprint merger, they damn sure won’t block this merger. This is Sony grasping at straws and as others have said, the right bribes just haven’t been paid yet.

This merger will go through.

It’ll get rid off Bobby K.

They may even get rid of Ion, if they want to install their own GD.

This could be potentially very dramatic, or even more potentially very undramatic and nothing really changes.

I hope the boat gets rocked though, and some fresh ideas come to the Blizzard round table.

I’d like to see how Microsoft handles Blizzard players too, I know the player base would rather burn the house down than turn over the keys, so I’m excited to see the fireworks!

Microsoft hasn’t even bought Activision yet. How can anything happen until they can buy the company? How can you judge anything Microsoft has done with Activision when they haven’t even bought them yet?
