HOw Do YOU Feel about the Level Squish?

I’ve been playing the Shadowlands Beta, and so far I’m loving it overall. I do find the “level squish” as an interesting aspect though. Was there a particular reason why it was done rather than leveling to 130? I’m personally fine with it, but it does seem like a random step to take. Personally, I loved leveling through all of the various lands and expansions. Now, it seems, you don’t need to do that anymore. I loved leveling 1-60 through “vanilla Azeroth”, then visiting Outland, Northrend, the Cata zones, Pandaria, Draenor, the Broken Isles, and even Kul’Tiras! Does the new system take away from that or benefit the player more?

I like the level squish. I wish they consolidated the story though, the way that one YouTube dude said.

But, level squish- yeah cool

It was done because some annoyingly vocal trolls kept demanding it on the forums throughout the first half of BfA and Blizzard took them seriously…

Currently my feelings on it are mixed… overall I still think it was the stupidest thing they ever have done… but it is also nice being able to get my alts caught up quicker…

I have a lot of issues with the level squish though… one of them being Chromie Time… Chromie Time never should have been a thing… instead we should have had the actual choice of where to go as a permanent staple… every past expansion should have been scaled from 10-50 permanently… none of this nonsense of Vanilla is 10-14, BC is 14-18, WotLK is 18-22, etc…

Let’s do some math here half of 120 is 60, 60 used to be the old max level. They were gonna do it some time, might as well be now before the levels get to crazy.

The level squish combined with the new leveling system is the best thing to happen to the game in years. You can level, quickly, through any expansiion you want - and then make a new character and pick a different expansion.

It is wonderful and literally revitalized my love of the game.

This is true. And I do appreciate that aspect of it, but still, I feel it might take away a sizable chunk of the story for new players.

I enjoy doing what I want but I I ran into the same problem I hated about the last iteration there is ZERO absolutely zero difficulty

Leveling in WoW has never been difficult, it has only ever been time-consuming. UwU

I think it’s great. Been wanting one for years, huge improvement to WoW’s leveling!

It wasn’t random though. The previous leveling had serious flaws people have been bringing up. 120 is really quite a lot. Saying “120-130 levels to reach end game” isn’t appealing. Most of them awarded nothing at all so had no reason to exist, limited character progression. Questing was janky since you only saw the intro zone of an expansion before you were forced on to the next one.

Just issues that continued to get worse as time went on. So Blizz finally rebuilt the system anew. It’s better now! Faster, more rewarding, more questing freedom. Great for attracting new players and benefiting old ones too.

I think it’s fine. Gaining a level feels more meaningful, the trek to cap looks less daunting, and it feels good to get new abilities regularly.

The only thing I don’t care for is the way they’ve handled LFD.

It helps leveling a bit in that there is no longer huge chunks where you get nothing for leveling up anymore.

The biggest problem there now is as Divium said, there’s still basically zero difficulty. Although even Vanilla wasn’t exactly super hard, the threat of death was at least on the table.

That and professions are still basically irrelevant until you hit current expansion.

I don’t like nubs catching up to me so fast.

There was a time when there was some level of difficulty.

It’s fine, I just wish Blizzard learned to stat squish better. Or better yet, reduce stat either gains or value enough to were every expansion we aren’t gaining huge amounts of stats.

I don’t like squishes, but that’s just me. I know that it’s all relative, but I like seeing Wild’s numbers go up and up! That’s one of my favorite things about RPGs. But I understand that it may not work for WoW - so I’ll probably just stick to Cookie Clickers to fulfill that fantasy.

My issue is the tuning and bugs, like getting stuck in chromie time at 50, not being able to do any dungeons etc. Mop rares are crazy overtuned, stuff like that. Flying is I think 30 now, but any old toons that had flying will still be able to fly before 30, but you are locked out of stuff that needs flying, cause you shouldn’t be able to have it, with a normal character. Now If they didn’t have issues like that I would fine with it. It’s been poorly implemented.

I find gameplay tedious and repetitive; because of the squish, many of my toons lost travel abilities that I already paid for and can no longer equip gear they already had on.

Scaling sucks, you still grow weaker as you level, not stronger.

It’s like playing in upside downey world.

Depends on what you’re playing… some classes/specs have an increasingly hard time doing a lot of open world content at certain level points because of the level scaling system… I’ve had moments where I’d level up while fighting 5 or 6 mobs at a time, and before the level up I was burning them down like it was nothing, but as soon as the level up dinged, I started getting destroyed because the mobs strength went up by a much larger degree than mine did… and then on characters like a mage who can’t self heal, some quests are nearly impossible because they have a very hard time surviving against more than one enemy, or simply can’t survive against a single strong opponent.

Yeah, I tried to level and get a class hall mount on my sub rogue but hit a wall because it demands a quest where I kill a gold elite world quest mob. My damage are mosquito bites while they rip my face off at level 47

Only choice is to outlevel and go back and stomp it

No there wasn’t. You just pulled less things when you killed them. I’ve been here from the start. It’s always been easy. UwU
