I feel that this is wrong. I also feel that WoW needs more QoL features as it grows older because the expansions are growing and the game is growing. WoW needs more portals, more flight whistles, hearthstones and flying to be unlocked sooner. Ground mounts need to have cooler features and to make ground mount equipment more robust. Flight paths also need a huge pass because they have been neglected for years and are in need of another massive tuning pass.
I feel that WoW needs a shot of adrenaline to fix all these issues.
How you experience WoW comes in two flavors. First obviously what you choose on the character selection screen and the second being how you travel around with which character you select on the character selection screen.
The secret sauce to success is for WoW to understand that current retail customers don’t really want the vanilla experience IMVHO. While there may be some overlap and someone will do the Venn diagram (Nerd!) overall retail and classic are different mindsets.
Classic is more of a laid back leveling is part of the journey so travel is integral to the design.
But with retail endgame systems is everything so travel should not be integral to its design.
Such a conflict in design currently plaguing retail hits you like a ton of bricks because you are expected to participate in endgame systems but are tasked with chores lists slowed down by travel design from vanilla!
Dear BlizZard you can’t straddle the fence and try to have vanilla ice cream and cookies and cream at the same time. It just doesn’t work!
Retail needs a huge boost in travel systems in Slands or else it will bring a dark cloud over everything else you are trying to do in Slands.
But you can still ride your mount to the nearest flight master right? Excluding maw of course. Don’t get me wrong there is lot of things I don’t like about shadowlands, but flight whistle isn’t even in the top 20.
It’s funny you say this, as travel integral to design is exactly why we were given flight in TBC. And exactly why we don’t get flight anymore at the start of expansions – it’s no longer integral to zone design.
By the same logic, you eliminate the flight whistle, or usable mounts in the Maw.
Look, we need to remove this idea that people in classic and retail have different mindsets. Maybe they thought different in Vanilla, but right now in Classic, the first purchase anyone does is their epic mount. Then you create a bank alt, that will be right beside the AH, so you never actually have to go to the AH. Then you have a network of warlocks all over the place set up that summon you to anywhere that is relevant, and once you have your buffs, you log out and don’t go anywhere. If you do, you call the warlock. No one ever rides or flies to their raid. People have warlock alts parked at each raid entrance to summon the entire team when it’s raid time. We don’t even ride to the darkmoon fair in classic, ok?
I can’t know how I feel because I have not played through it, hypothetically though, if the zones are as they are… no flight whistle is fine with me. They have and can introduce neat little elements/perks for each covenant in the form of faster travel etc…
I do however think it was a great QoL change when I’d know the zone inside out, stuck somewhere, wanting a quick out.
I almost cried when I found this in my server, it’s basically uber but better. Instant sum to all the faction cities, thorium point and Uldum 24/7 for cheap price (and anywhere else of special fee)
I don’t, I say it all the time. Keep classic classic and retail retail. I play both and like them for different reasons. I wouldn’t want flying in classic but I wouldn’t want no flying in retail
On live you can land at a FP and head off to 2-3 quests easily.
With my experience on beta it seems the WQs are fewer, scattered and rarely so together so your having to back track to where you landed then fly to the next FP for the next WQ
With the zones being so tiny to begin with its not an issue. Even BFA zones were tiny with 100% mounts. I understand people just want to make a bee line to every thing but its not a big deal to me.
2: There is no “meaningful choices” when any rogue that doesn’t go necrolord is ostracized for going against the meta.
3: No soloque RBG with no premades yet.
4: Class abilities are not on the top of the dps breakdown yet. I don’t want to see procs/covenant abilities/conduits proc/legendries procs on the top of the dps breakdown. What did I die to you ask? Not class ability. What is the bread and butter of my dps you ask? Again, not class ability again.
5: Stop making every profession into a breadcrumb that leads to “well go do raids now.” I know raids exist, I’ll do them when I can so please blizzard, stop making me do content I’m not interested in so that I can do content I’m interested in. Make all professions depends on each other instead of every profession depending on raids, if that makes any sense to you blizzard.
6: The lore of shadowlands is weird, I don’t even know where to begin. I mean I can understand Kael’thas being in Revendreth, which is where souls get sent by the arbiter to be redeemed and all that good jazz mambo jambo(I mean I sympathize with him, I don’t even know why he ever became a raid boss in the first place so I’m more than okay with him having a redemption). Hell I can even see him being a raid boss again, and us “cleansing” him as part of his final step to redemption. But Hakkar? Hakkar?! lolwut? Why is Hakkar in Revendreth?!
7: Barrier to entry in PVP through torghast legendary grind is highly disconcerting. Fun and mandatory don’t go together.
9: The quality of gear you get from pvp depends on your rating and blizzard is telling me “just reach 2500 rating and you will get better gear through pvp” when I can’t even get a foot into the rating scene because, again like I said, no soloque. Apparently rated pvp is the only pvp that matters.
10: Covenant abilities, soulbinds, legendries and pve trinkets will work in pvp…that’s just BFA 2: Electric boogaloo. Pvp lives and dies by class abilities/class design. Sure thunderfury was great for warrior especially for aeo threat in classic but it’s not like warriors felt incomplete class without it, there is a difference. But the legendries in shadowlands will be mandatory from the looks of things.
11: The art team in blizzard is pretty good but I think the shadowlands transmogs are being made by the balance team. Can we please have a good UNIQUE tier set for a change that has as much passion and work put into it as heritage armor? Is that too much to ask?
12: Say what you want about BFA but it had one of the best unique mounts of all the wow expansions, I can’t say the same for shadowlands. Blizzards, stop it with the unicorn mounts, bat mounts, lion mounts, fox mounts, mana rays, and runestags are basically talbuks. Just stop blizzard.
13: Every spec should be viable and not dead like some are now and will be in shadowlands.
14: Admiral Taylor is not in Bastion, why? Just why?
15: Sure aoe cap gives all specs a chance to be in high level content instead of aoe specs ruling the meta on paper but a better meteor effects where the damage increases per target up to a maximum, and continues to hit additional targets, dividing up the damage so it doesn’t go over the max.
16: night fae rogue covenant ability is unusable in solo content because you can involuntarily reset the npc that you were trying to kill for the last a minute and half. Whoever came up with this covenant ability clearly never done any solo content and got carried through everything in wow.
17: I have 3 billion reasons to be in the open world of old world content, but I see no point in being in the current content’s open world besides wqs for rep and ap…I mean anima power or whatever it’s called in shadowlands. I don’t mean like just sprinkle shadowland’s open world with toys and mounts like draenor, no, give me couple new long unique questlines that gives lore-rich storyline and unique fun titles or something(No Good, Dirty, Rotten, Candy Stealer as a permanent title please, I’m asking this for rogues everywhere).
18: We need class tier sets. I wish this was a given thing and we didn’t have to beg for it, yet here we are. Heirloom sets looks more majestic than sets from shadowlands.
19: Most specs have mind-numbingly boring rotation and need some borrowed power to make that spec’s rotation mildly enjoyable, it’s a problem when a spec’s enjoyability depends on that. Hell some specs will still have boring rotation even if you acquire the mandatory bis covenant abilities, soulbinds, legendries and pve trinkets.
20: Blizzard should make navigation by ground less painful by providing direct, mob-free lines of travel between major areas of interests because every time I watch shadowlands cinematic I think to myself “that looks good, but that’s going to be torture to travel in.”
