How do you even BEGIN to use Scars of Fraternal Strife?

Wow! I just got back from vacation! My Warrior alt needs to get her LFRs done…or at least try to. I recently acquired the Scars from the weekly event, Normal version. Two proper trinkets, I’m excited!

However, I have no idea how to even begin using this item. The first two debuffs are bad enough, but if I want to trigger all five for the big bonus, I have to take around 1.2k Bleed per 2 seconds (around 900 normally, the echo adds around 300), suffer a horrendous slow after every action, and wait 30 seconds in between each use.

If I go into a instance with two runes (which aren’t that bad) it will take a minute and thirty seconds just to get the big bonus, and two minutes 30 seconds for it again, while suffering the horrible debuffs for all that while. I CAN just use the first two runes for +Vers and +Haste but that’s an awful waste of a trinket slot. Comparasion: Earthbreaker’s Impact does good AoE damage with a way to do even more AoE damage, with +Str to boot.

I’m just tilting my head at this thing? I like the idea but feel both the negatives and the cooldown vastly defeat the positives. How do you use this thing without either dying or having healers hate your very existence?

I think it’s meant to be a bad trinket. It’s in the name even, like this trinket was some sort of curse from the Jailer’s siblings. Now that curse is yours to ‘enjoy’. But seriously it’s vendor trash. It hurts when you win it from a weekly event even more because it will be the highest ilevel piece of gear that you will ever delete.

Oh, slight correction: I said vault, but I did win it from the weekly TW event. That is unfortunate…

Yeah, I think I’m going back to my 449 PvP trinket. It’s not amazing but it doesn’t actively get me killed.

This trinket is the third best trinket for single target and best for AoE on Fury Warriors.

OP, here is how to use the trinket. I stole this 100% plagiarism from AlanMix on WoWHead.

How does it work. The general mechanics is similar to the Corruption from patch 8.3 BfA. When equipping a trinket, you can choose one of five runes (it takes 30 seconds to change between each). The first four give one stat and what kind of deterioration for your character. The last, fifth, immediately gives 4 stats and a debuff that deals damage every 30 seconds, about 9k damage. In theory, you can choose the necessary stat for yourself and your personal debuff, which can be compensated by your mechanics. The last rune deals damage and is more suitable for any thread of tanks or healers. The idea is interesting, but most will choose “stable” trinkets that deal damage or give a general save, since the bonus is too weak, and the negative effect in rare situations can lead to death.

Description of effects in runes, tooltip from 233 item. Each rune change (from 1 up 2) requires a cooldown of 30 seconds.

  • The First Rune - Your Haste is increased by 68. 10% of damage you take will echo again 3 sec later.

  • The Second Rune - Your Versatility is increased by 68. All Healing you take is reduced by 5%.

  • The Third Rune - Your Critical Strike is increased by 68. You are bleeding for 456 damage every 2 sec.

  • The Fourth Rune - Your Mastery is increased by 68. Your spells and abilities reduce your movement speed by 2% for 15 sec, stacking up to 10 times.

  • The Final Rune - Your Critical Strike, Haste, Mastery, and Versatility are increased by 136. When the Final Rune fades, explode for 9082 damage. 30 seconds remaining.

Information based on tooltips 233 and 259 items. What exact stats are given for 246/272/285 - I can’t say. Who drop - write.

ILvL One Rune Stats Final Rune Stats
246 (LFR) 74 149
259 (Normal) 81 163
272 (Heroic) 88 176
285 (Mythic) 95 190

You vendor or bank it.

I macro’d it in with Siegebreaker, works good. Is better than most M+ trinks. The debuffs are very manageable, the average damage output from it is excellent.

Thanks for the information! I certainly see all the benefits of using it, but feel it needs both organization and is role specific. You mentioned Fury but I made said Warrior Arms, just because I like the theme of it more!

Think for my particular case, stability is a bit more important to me than the possible big burst after a while.

In addition, this feels like a trinket I would only use in a group in raids or dungeons. Without a healer, I would get frustrated.

I would not disagree if you wanted to vendor this trinket. Trinkets which punish players are terrible design, regardless if it is the best for raw dps or not.

Blizz is just really bad at designing kiss/curse trinkets. They vastly underestimate drawbacks while acting like 50 extra secondary stat is game-breakingly powerful.

Honestly I would like this better (and actually use it) if they would just drop some Primary Stats on it. Feels undertuned without some stats built-in, and without fail the Final Rune just about always goes off right when I don’t need it to.

OTOH, it isn’t Feast Bells, so there’s that at least.
