How do you defeat Viscidus in AQ40?

I’ve read this boss is only susceptible to frost damage so I logged on my mage to try it and nothing works. The boss freezes and just keeps taking infinite damage. I tried fire, arcane, frost and melee damage. Nothing is taking this boss down. I know there was some way I read about a long time ago using a certain trinket and weapon enchants but I was wondering if there is an easier way to defeat this boss. Thanks

so you need to do frost damage THEN do physical damage if i remember correctly

So I need to pull with frost damage, then it’ll go to 1% because of my level and I keep doing frost to make it freeze and then melee? I’m just trying to figure out the order of spells here.

Update: I opened with frostbolts and when it frozen I started auto attacking. I see emotes from the boss saying it begins to crack and ready to shatter. I’m guessing this is the right way but my mage can’t do enough auto attack damage to finish it.

Yeah the way it works is you need to do X amount of frost damage sources within a certain time frame to freeze the boss. Afterwards you need to do Y amount of physical damage sources to shatter the boss. I would recommend getting https://www.wowhead.com/item=86570/crate-of-kidnapped-puppies if you are a caster. Also equip a dagger for the faster attack speed. Since it is not based on the amount of physical damage you do, but how many times you do it.

If the boss is not at 1hp when the shatter happens, it will split into smaller blobs that you need to kill.

If you do it on a melee / hunter user (sorry rogues), there are some weapons that do frost damage from a vendor in Storm Peaks. You need to unlock the vendor first by doing the “They took our Men” quest line though.

If I remember correctly it is less about the “amount of damage” and more about the “number of hits” once the boss is frozen. I used a trinket when I did it that spawned like 5 attack puppies to help melee it. It’s been a long time though so I don’t recall the trinket. Wowhead comments on the pet he drops (he drops a pet) will probably have all kinds of suggestions on how to get the melee hit count up

I was able to down it pretty easy on about 5 of my characters today. I tried it on my paladin and mage but couldn’t attack it fast enough to shatter it. On my other characters I used the Endothermic Blaster toy to freeze it and then melee’d it down. It seems to be pretty easy on monks, demon hunters and hunters. Its probably just as easy with the other melee/physical classes too. Thanks everyone for the helpful tips.

The pet dropped twice for me, so yay!

Put elemental force on a dagger.
