sorry if this sounds rude, not trying to be, but you have nothing else in your current daily events that interests you. any hobbies? sports, BF/GF/BFF, husband/wife/kids, etc. if wow is the only thing in your life, you should start researching other things that you might like to try.
The addiction ended in 2007 with BC, since then its just been a filler to get me through the slow boring days of winter. I couldnt imagine being addicted to this game in 2023
But you got to get ultra elite pvp achievments, high io scores, collect all the pets and mounts, and get the best ever transmog or you’re a failure!
Or you can just log in and play it like it’s just a game and screw around and then log off with the addicts sitting there slobbering on their keyboards about how evil/terrible/worthless you are when you leave.
anyone who puts this game, or any game, ahead of any meaningful real life relationship, school, work, or any real life responsibility should quit the game until they’ve got their life sorted out. there’s been a lot of people ruin their whole lives over video games.
No, not all producst are equally designed to suck people in. Wow is one of, if not the most time consuming addictive games ever in existence. Movies don’t have this problem, it’s a poor comparison, because yea entertainment is supposed to be attractive, but not consume your life.
I also disagree that most people don’t allow themselves to get addicted. Maybe less so today, but many of the people who play know they’re addicted and believe they cannot stop.
There are definitely different levels, especially between medias, but look at star wars nerds (im one of them) the amount of consumerism behind that brand is crazy. But yea, video games is a whole other level. Look at games like roblox and fortnite that consume children today, not mention ftp mobile games. At least wow’s and ff14’s models are retention for subs (for the most part), not nickel and dime tactics like ftp mmo’s
If you’re struggling that much with it, outside help may be needed. Do you have a support network - family, friends? Maybe fill your hobby time with something else more fulfilling like watching a favorite show with your SO during what would be WoW time, or go to the gym.
I use to spend a lot of time playing WOW, if I wasn’t at work, I was roaming the lands of Azaroth. Then Blizzard intervened and helped cure my addition. They implemented Pathfinder and all the little horrors like, mandatory participation in dungeons to advance professions, to go along with Pathfinder. THIS pretty much cured me. I stopped purchasing new expansions and never again recommended World Of Warcraft to future gamers. THEN, just to be sure I not linger too long when logging in, Blizzard enabled the recent change to the auction house. The hours I was spending hunting for items to sell for a profit no longer are worth the time. I’m sad, I loved the game so. However, with Blizzards encouragement, I’ve found new gaming worlds to explore.

I’ts not only just that too, most things are cumalitive. People addicted to the game are sitting for many hours, and sitting is the new smoking. It’s killing people slowly. Not to mention too much screen time is also bad for you. These are things nobody says, but are actually true, no matter how much people don’t want to believe it. It can lead to depression, anxiety, physical pain, muscle attrifute, headaches, eye strain, ect. For what a digital piece of gear?
That’s when you truly know something is addictive, people do it at their own peril, and sure peril is relative and you’ll run into it no matter how good or safe you are, but just like with the addiction of smoking, the people want that buzz at the cost of health. The medical industry I believe is late on this, but Millenials, and beyond are going to have major health issues related to too much screen time, and too much sitting. Maybe that’s what they want.
