I was doing a Mythic 8 Halls of Infusion and this dude tells me to dispel the afflicted… The fight commences and I cleanse who I can. People are sustaining damage and I cant do anything except heal them through it and wait 8 seconds for my cleanse to come back up. This guy is whispering me to cleanse cleanse cleanse and im like, I cant do anything else. I mean im new again, coming back into doing Mythics but as far as I know, Paladins have no real way to mass dispel unless im wrong?
We get 1 cleanse every 8 seconds. That means that in a 2 minute fight, at best, I get to dispel a max of 15 times. In a group of 5 people, if all 5 get something that needs dispelling:
The second person being dispelled would have to wait 8 seconds.
The third person would have to wait another 8 seconds (so 16 seconds total from the start).
The fourth person would have to wait another 8 seconds (24 seconds)
The fifth person would have to wait 32 seconds (typically I just bubble but you get me)
Im not sure what else to do. But im open to the possibility that there is another way and if there is, plz lmk. I left the group in frustration because I have no idea what this person wanted from me. Cant cleanse everyone.
Was I healing through it perfectly fine? No, again, I hit 70 yesterday and im trying to gear up. But nobody was dying either. It was a decent fight.
But yea if theres any way to handle 5 people needing cleansing twice in a fight, im all ears.
I think he probably meant the afflicted affix which is what we have this week in M+… A little ghost spawns (sometimes is only one, sometimes there are two of them), it needs to be either cleansed or healed within a certain time-frame to get rid of it (you have 10s I think so you could in theory dispel both but usually you get one and somebody else gets the other one).
If you don’t and he finishes his cast then bad things happen… I think it’s a -100% haste debuff on the group.

You can look for a more detailed one if you want some extra help like a weakaura or UI settings to have them show health and castbar.
dont play with idiots? i would leave instant such group. and I don’t even wait 30 seconds for the invite. I’ve had a rating of over 3k for a very long time. So a good group can be found quickly.
many weeks/months ago i hard-carried stupid animals in vortex 20 tyr week and controlled/interrupted 2 ghosts. was a hell of a job. back then there wasn’t even a weakaura with alert…
but at the end boss 2nd and 3rd spark is hardcore. and paladin healing was very bad back then. So I had to give everything and then the ghosts spawn at the edge. so I would have to run there and interrupt shortly before the end of the cast… BUT THE GROUP GOES DOWN LIKE TITANIC!
and then we quickly had 2x anti heal stacks. all dead.
do you know what’s coming? “healer wtf. where is heals???”.
and these idiots could very well interrupt or even control the spirits. there were 3 other people with cc. so much for that.
some are so stupid and disrespectful that you are not even allowed to play with them!
in us it is maybe much better. I don’t have an account here. but in europe it is absolutely sick at the moment.
I ran into the same issue when I retuned to healing on this affix.
Group kept saying to cleanse and of course I thought they refered to the group themselves and couldnt figure out why addons show nothing to cleanse.
The afflicted ghost themselves have to be cleansed or healed. If there are two I use 1 cleanse and 1 BoK. Or Holy Prism. Dont bother with a cast heal or usually holy light wont heal them fully, and that would waste another global.
Use a Weak auras so you know when they are coming so you can have the cd ready to cleanse or heal them completely.
Try to have another player help if possible. Wasting 2 full globals on 2 afflicted during high damage moments is BAD.
I hate the way the new affixes mainly reast on the healers. Hince… the healer stike.
you are not wrong as stated by others dispell one, try to heal the other and be aware of the idiots on the low brackets ppl are rude or plain ignorant they have no idea what they are doing and you as a healer have to carry everyones mistakes on your back, try to prog it with friends and learn from your mistakes if you make them.
also dont take too seriusly people from pugs and stick to those that are willing to teach you rather than carry you it will work wonders on the long run.
Can healers solo afflicted yes well any class with a dispel can technically solo it due to them having a 10 second cast and dispels having an 8 second cooldown. Should a healer be soloing the affix no ofc not as many dps/tanks specs can spec into a dispel with pretty much no loss in dps/other utility and spend 1 whole gcd every 45 seconds using it.
Personally for Afflicted and Incorporeal week if the pug group does not have at least 3 members that can deal with the affix i will leave before it even starts.
Yup, remember to inspect the group to make sure players are talented into their dispels otherwise remind them and if they refuse I’d just leave.
I made the mistake of not checking in a +21 Underrot… Turns out neither the Guardian nor the Feral druid had it even talented, so it was all me as the healer having to deal with it… UR is an easy dungeon so we still timed it but it was not a fun experience, sometimes having to heal both ghosts since I needed to dispel some other mechanic.
Had I not been on my Pally it would have been even worse since other healers sometimes struggle a bit with spot healing.
Dispelling afflicted is not solely healer’s job, if those dps are not doing it, leave the group, you get insta invite as hpal. Tank except prot warrior can help but not first priority, good to do as it trains their multitasking skill.
As Ret, if the fight is healing intense (always will be), I will Cleanse one and FoL+WoG the other one while my Crusading Strike is pooling holy power, I’d rather lost 2 extra gcd and 3 holy power than letting the cast went off. By doing this my muscle memory on my rotation got improved by alot within this week.
