Waiting in queue, praying for a tank to join your M+ is a serious drag, so recently I’ve been working on getting my bear up to snuff. I usually heal, so I know which abilities are dangerous and need to be interrupted. One thing eludes me. How do you guys coordinate? Is there an addon that helps? I can’t remember ever seeing party members discuss it, but at least in successful runs, it’s unusual to see people overlapping interrupts to a detrimental degree. How do you manage it?
There is a weakaura which allows you to see party interrupt cooldowns. Then just assign 1 person to make calls (I do it as a tank but ranged dps is best)
Disclaimer: most groups will still fail
There is also a weakaura for auto marking targets that will mark any mob that has an interruptible cast throughout the dungeon. The party leader has to have the automaker enabled for it to work as intended.
Before the key goes in, let the group know you will be marking targets, and assign markers for everyone. (I.e. hunter on circle, rogue on X, tank on skull etc)
Ideally, if your tanking, and you want things to go smoothly, ask everyone to go in voice. Emphasize that they do not have to speak if they are uncomfortable doing so, only to listen. It makes tanking much easier to speak instruction then to have to type while playing, and having people not required to speak makes anyone who might otherwise be socially uncomfortable more comfortable to join.
Just google ‘mythic kick tracker weak aura.’ It’s the very first link.
Using that weak aura plus party communication. For higher keys, I usually make Disc a requirement. If not, for specific fights I’ll set up the kick order or have the tank to it. Like the 2nd boss of SOTS. We’ll setup a kick order for ads and tank the tank. For trash, It’s usually pairs of kicks. As in, the tank gets the first and the 1st dps gets the 2nd on the skull target while 2nd and third dps get kicks on the X target.
In the end though, voice makes kicks the easiest to land. When you start getting to keys 16+ on fort weeks, kicks on ads is very important. 3-4 casts getting off can kill a tank without cds.
On 10s we usually just faceroll it with whatever interrupts happen to land. Higher keys you usually do it over voice.
Make sure you have a party interrupt tracker (usually WeakAuras) of some kind. That’s vital.
We kinda deal with interrupts in three ways.
-
General guidance before the dungeon starts (“Jim if there’s an assassin in the pull it’s yours, otherwise go Bob -> Mike -> Jim”)
-
For critical pulls (like the triple screamers in teeming AD) set markers and confirm in comms before the pull. 5 seconds setting up the pull is better than a wipe.
-
For rotations on a single mob / boss, I just call it on the fly.
Note: 3 probably isn’t necessary if you have a normal triple interrupt comp (just rotate in a fixed order, I don’t think there’s any boss that needs more than three), but we often run Demo + Boomkin and rely on my shield resets, and that needs on-the-fly calls.
This sounds very promising. Thanks for the replies everyone! <3
You can use the add on omniCd too. To determine what needs to be interrupted you’ll just have to get hit a bunch to determine. I stopped interrupting wash away so I could save it for the water blast on the attendants in shrine this week.
Note that with that weak aura, the party leader has to have it enabled or it won’t work.
