1700 mmr bracket: Every game goes to 70%+ dampening because they don’t know how to play the game properly, you have almost 0 control on the outcome of the game. When I was healing at 2.4k in another season it was unironically 100 times easier to climb rating because your team actually plays the game properly. These games are really unenjoyable and every round feels like a coin flip at super high dampening.
If a game goes to 70% damp at 1700, the dps are either asleep at the keyboard or playing on a circa 1999 Gateway PC with dial up.
Then I guess you never played that bracket before because it’s like that almost every single round
Cc the enemy healer
Generally you want to start these games by doing your normal healing rotation. When dampen gets to a certain point (depending on the classes) you want to look for an SAFE oppritunity to get agressive. Throw a CC on a target whos not DR’d. Use some of your class damage etc. If you get into low MMR heal battles then its just gonna come down to mana and comp if you dont do anything. Or if the other healer isnt just way worse than yourself.
My main point is that as you climb rating it should get progressively harder, right? But actually, as a healer it gets easier the higher you climb. It makes no sense. There is a huge skill disparity between healers and dps at this 1700mmr bracket. 1700 solo shuffle healer is equal to like 2k-2.2k in regular 3’s. Meanwhile, 1700 solo shuffle dps play like 1400 players. The end result is extremely miserable and unfun for any healer at this bracket who is forced to play with much less skilled players.
This season I played solo shuffle as destro, windwalker, boomy, mistweaver and rdruid. As destro/WW/boomy, the climb was an absolute breeze. Speedrun from 0 rating to duelist in just a couple hours on every single dps, it’s a joke because 2k solo shuffle = 1700 in normal 3s. But on both mistweaver and rdruid… the climb is hell… Trying to heal 1400 players into deep dampening every round is painfully unfun and like I said I feel almost no control over the outcome of the games - at 70%+ dampening it’s basically just a coin flip. Very slow and painful grind.
And before you try to say I’m just not good at healing and I’m better at dps… No that’s definitely not true, my highest rating ever on this game was on a healer. I have played every healing spec at one point or another, and have been regularly healing arenas since MoP.
Giving me basic advice like this is not useful. As rdruid I am cloning very aggressively, both the healer and the off-target. It doesn’t matter, these players don’t know how to play. You can hand them a kill setup on a silver platter and they will do nothing with it. I don’t even care about climing rating, I have no rating goals left in this game. I just want enjoyable gameplay with similarly skilled players to myself… I don’t want to heal 1400’s into deep dampening…
That is the problem: only by pushing games and hoping for a good streak.
But I have proven myself this season by 2 fresh alts, that sooner or later everyone get to the mmr they belong to. On one alt I had terrible times, played nearly 600 rounds in total. But in the end I got it to the same mmr that my mains are on.
Dont que ss. Its the most toxic thing ever added to this game. Make some friends and que the ladder. Honestly they just need to gut ss and devote resources to making a legit lfg tool for arena.
You need to tell your team what to do, and use the ping system. Tell them before gates open which two people to hit and say I’ll ping kill targets and when to use defensives. And maybe a 3rd sentence about strategy. I feel like I’m at a 100 mmr boost when the dps notice I typed ‘stay in my los/range at all times’ and follow pings
It was amusing watching Pikaboo play as a healer. He struggled more in the lower brackets because he had no idea what the DPS were going to do. It was nonsensical madness.
In the lower brackets, I’m not sure if it’s beneficial to call out a kill target before the gates open. Frequently, one of the DPS will focus on a different target as if they didn’t see chat or they’re confused. Then, it becomes a game of chicken to see which DPS gives up first and swaps to the other’s target. Meanwhile, the enemy team has been focusing on the same target this whole time.
Your point is 1700 DPS are playing like 1700 dps and you’re just heal botting them.
Telling that guy “well I’m cloning” when he gave you apt advice makes it sound like you just want to complain.
If it’s getting to 70%+ damp no one’s doing anything or trading immaculately (they aren’t)
I don’t think you actually read my post. 1700 aren’t playing like 1700, they are playing like 1400. No I don’t just want to complain, Vinygaar gave some actual useful advice. “Just cc” is not useful advice.
I mean, it sounds like you ARE better at dps than healer in shuffle, though. CC enemy healer during your team’s damage cds and also contribute damage.
Can fw into good lobbies as mw and clone and rdruid damage are super relevant up until like 2400
Spoken like someone who’s never played solo shuffle as a healer lmao
In my opinion not overhealing and not eating cc trying to get yours out is what i notice the most when i have a healer in my lobby whos crushing it. Also healers that help their dps kill make the game way scarier.
The 70% damp thing i havent really experienced much, most shuffle games are over pretty fast. Dps shouldnt be tunneling though, i usually tell them that before gates open. If theyre not swapping on defensives to try and max damage games are going to go longer. Vs rdruids im swapping constantly
Its not pointless to try and say that stuff before round start. They may not listen, but they may.
“It” is the variable here
Not all games played as healer are won by casting healing spells
