How do you aoe tank as a warrior?

paladins and druids have a fairly easy 1 button wonder to hold aoe agro

but how does a warrior measure?

really want to get a warrior tank but seems alot more complicated on the upcoming aoe mega damage meta…

I don’t think they participate in the upcoming aoe mega damage meta.

It’ll be rough. Outside of thunderclapping and cleaving on CD and tab devestate, you have 2 things that can help you. Use an engineering grenade on every pull. Use food buffs that do AoE damage (lightning eel recipe).

Hmm. That doesn’t sound like fun. Mebbe i should start leveling up a pally then like everyone else.

Dreamsphere is correct.

You don’t. When you are with a warrior tank it is more important to follow single target kill orders, while only doing minor aoe. Which is good advise for doing heroic dungeons anyways.

If you have a frost mage to blizzard slow mobs then you only need to hold threat at the start of the pull.

Don’t feel bad. Druids can’t hold AoE threat for crap either.

ez. build sunders on 1 target. save revenge strictly for another target while also sundering and hold your taunt for whoever keeps pulling threat on another target along with mocking blow and challenging shout noboday should be dying. they might take a hit or two but as long as your synchronizing abilities on multiple enemies you should be able to hold at least 3 or 4 mobs on yourself. Focus on elites and let party members take a few hits from non elites until you can taunt or stun them.

the initial pull is always the hardest because people will target whatever, but after the first target dies you can focus on revenging another target, spamming sunders on another target, and of course using taunt on any other guy that isnt hitting you while tossing a sunder or revenge on them for the duration of the taunt

You run around and hit a lot of different mobs.

Tab sunder/Devastate.

Misdirection.

It’s insanely easy to get dungeon geared in TBC. Half of your pre bis items are from quests. Some others from reputation or crafted.

You are going to want to look at raid spots not dungeon meta rofl.

There is going to be a shortage of tanks and casters like always so this AoE meta won’t be the majority of dungeon runs.

Warrior tanks really need engineering. How you’re supposed to be effective at the job without it or a thunderfury is beyond me. On top of dynamite, I also used the aoe oil and food in lower levels.

1st off, pala will always be easier AOE tanking in tbc.

these tips are in no particular order.
-always pop zerker rage for more rage
-cleave a lot (mouseover macro) and IMP CLEAVE talent can help.
-a specialized spec if u are farming 5mans is worth taking. talents dictate u must choose a raid spec or 5man aoe-tank spec basically.
-demo shout only good for initial tagging

-taunt/mocking/conc/imp revenge(if u have it) <— use these on skull target and let DPS kill it while u build threat on something else.

-Never tclap or demo shout unless really needed, because less hits on u = less rage = less threat.

-much dps gear as possible without getting dangerously low hp

-basically u need a shaman in team for WF or else u will feel very gimped. best is resto sham since earth shield helps your aggro a lot.

-while leveling u can get away with a Sweeping strike build, charge zerkrage SS + whirlwind, def stance asap, and cleave off all remaining charges of SS. Basically no dps can pull threat off this. Spec is not good once in heroics.

-battle shout can build threat if whole team is near u, i believe hunt and lock pets still help this but not sure if it’s been nerfed.

it’s not rly hard, just lot more keys to hit than dru/pala. with few macros&binds that suit you it’s not bad at all.

Oh. I don’t plan on raiding so its all good then.

Now, compare this to basically being a plate wearing porcupine that drops light on the ground.

Druid aoe tanking is the weakest. Warriors with engineering aren’t too bad, thunder clap hits everything

…wut?

Swipe spam with scaling AP trumps anything a Warrior can pull…

You still can only hit 3 targets per GCD. A warrior has WW, cleave, TC, and they should all be engineers. Plus they have block and with proper shield selection can have aoe tanking benefits there too. BS/CS is superior to demo as well. Druids are the weakest aoe tank, early on its not even close. Sure, they close the gap later on a bit but they have to work much harder for it.

I mean… cleave is weak as can be, TC doesn’t scale, and WW is Zerker stance…

Sure, but we also get 4-5k more Health rather trivially in the beginning.

dude cleave is not weak
basically every hit u are cleaving. and clean up strays with your other tools
Warrior parry = faster cleaves, he can get em out faster than the druid. nothing wrong with druid either tho, any tank can do ok in tbc.

Now if u wanna round like 10 packs in a Normal and mage them all down, pala will be king ofc. but in normal heroic speed runs any class is ok incl warr
